Corporate Endurance race at Boston F-1?

Post by StephanAlfa » Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:30 pm

Anyone has details about corporate endurance kart races at Boston F-1??? Are they still doing this and are there COM members willing to form team(s) to participate and get rid of some "cabin fever"??

The Boston BMW chapter is hosting 3 events at F1, two sprint events and a 4-driver 90 min enduro event in March. You may have to be a member of the BMW club to register, not sure, but its relatively cheap and would be offset by the F1 discount.

Yes, F1 Boston does hold corporate events. There are a few different race formats available, including endurance.

I contacted F1 in November to get pricing and lay the framework of a COM event. When all was said and done, I estimated approx $150-175 per head, figuring 4-driver teams and a 3-hour endurance race with an hour of open track for practice and qualifying. This would include lunch, trophies, and a separate conference room. The plan for the conference room was to host a COM "open house" where we would have an open invitation to COM friends and anyone else who would be interested in learning about the club, what we do, how we structure our events, and how to get involved.

Discussions about this event at board meetings were favorable as long as this would be a cash-neutral event for the club. I followed up with F1 to pick dates and further develop a plan. The usual window of booking dates and confirming with a sizeable deposit is one week. It would be very difficult to book a date, advertise the event to our membership, and receive non-refundable payment from each participant in one week. I was able to work with F1 a bit on logistics and thought we could come to an agreement that would work for both of us.

I spoke to a few members and board members about the event. Most were up on the idea but down on the cost. Several said they would have to choose between a track day and this event, which would be counter productive to our club, IMHO. I think the event would be great fun, but with everyone tightening their budgets this year, we should probably put it off for another season.

If there is interest, I think it would be great to have n informal gathering at F1. Pick a date and time and I'm game!

Hi All,

Since I'm the registrar for these events I can tell you that we have arranged it so you don't have to be a BMWCCA member to participate, you'll just have to create a login on the website to register with payment handled thru PayPal. All 3 events are $65/person with the 2 Sprint events on 2/8/09 and 3/7/09 now open for registration.

Hope to see lots of COM members there,
Dennis

I intend to do at least one sprint event and the 90 minute enduro, anyone interested in forming a team - post or PM. As Will mentioned, it would fun to get together and have some informal competition, COM-ers vs Bimwads. Maybe we can have our clubs' logos pasted to our helmet so we know who to block or point-by

Will the typical F1 Boston "no touch or the penalty box" rules be observed at this event? Got a link to the BMWCCA event?

I love their 'brake check to send the faster guy behind you to the penalty box' rule. ;)

We can talk to them about the rules, but my guess is they'll do what they feel they must.

As for the registration link, it is:
