About 5 months ago, my mother was diagnosed with Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The news was especially difficult for my family to accept. I remember thinking that it was a bad dream, and was wondering when I would awake from it. I soon realized that it was not a dream, and it was in fact a reality. Once the reality had sunk in, I knew a couple of things. I knew that I loved my mom very much, I was frightened about the thought of losing her. I knew that I needed to be strong to support her and to help keep her spirits high. Lastly, I knew that I wanted to do as much as physically possible to help find a cure. From the very beginning, my mom was exceptionally strong and very determined to beat it. Her courage and determination became my inspiration to do something to make a difference. To date, my mom has been doing pretty well with treatments. She has had her share of challenges along the way, but overall she is taking steps in the right direction and we look forward to the day when she can be free from cancer. My goal is to raise as much money as possible towards this cause, and to hopefully make a difference.
Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way.
While I'm training, I am raising funds to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring them hope and support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Hike For Discovery and help advance the mission of LLS.

Thanks so much for the donation. I appreciate your help. The fundraiser is set out to raise money towards finding a cure for Lymphoma/Leukemia and other blood cancers. The fundraiser is focused around a weekend hiking trip in the Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennesee. So I am training to get in shape to hike the Category 5 hike. Here is the explanation from their website.
Category Five
Mt. LeConte South/North: 13 miles total, up 2600 feet elevation gain, 3900 feet decent. Hike up the North face of Mt. LeConte on what is widely regarded as the most scenic trail in the Park. Visit the lodge on top of Mt. LeConte before decending the distinctly unique Southface of the mountain stopping at Rainbow Falls
Thanks again for your support!

hike for cancer
Hi Joal. I just donated to your cause. This is a great thing you are doing! I know well what your mom has gone though. I am fighting a war with Myeloma myseft. Through people like you and more funding toward research we can win this battle. Thanks again and have a great time hiking! Mario B

Thanks so much
Hey guys,
thanks so much for your donations! I really appreciate your support towards beating my fundraising goal. In order for me to participate in this fundraiser, I need to raise a minimum of $3,900. But my personal goal is raise as much money as physically possible. In this first week, with the help of people like yourselves, I have raised a total of about $1,500. The hike for me is going to be pretty challenging since I have never hiked (for real) a day in my life. It is going to be a long hard physical battle, but it is nothing compared to what people with these diseases have to overcome. The good thing for me is that I have a great team of people, and a professional hiker who will help me along the way. My first hike is scheduled for tomorrow am, so wish me luck! Thanks again for all your support!
