I lost at Watkins Glen !!!

Post by DanDarcy » Wed Apr 23, 2008 6:06 pm

I must admit that I lost the race real bad at Watkins Glen.
:x Sam Webster beat me bad !! :!: I even started be fore him
I fired up my gas grill before Sam even put the charcoal in his grill, yet his hambergers and hot dogs were cooked before mine :!: :!: :!: :!:
I have to get a faster GRILL

On the way home from Watkins after traveling for approx. 6 hours and just 2 miles from my house, The pin that holds the ball mount for the trailer hitch fell out and the whole hitch mount with sway bars and loadlevelers fell out. Luckily I was only doing 10 mph around a corner at the time. There was no damage to the trailer or hitch. I even found the pin about 150 feet behind where I stopped. I had a great time at WGI, every body did a great job, even Sam though I lost the grill race to him .

Wow Dan......Talk about getting lucky... I'd just as soon give up a grill race in exchange for not dumping a trailer and my race car into a ditch..

You must have been quick to act... :) ....good save..

Yikes. That must have been scary. Was the retaining clip old and lost its tension?(Some call it a Jesus clip.)

The only people that lost are the ones that stayed home.

Damn my cautiousness!

Wow Dan ... you just lost a food race :?
When I met up with you at the gas station on the 90 everything seemed alright in your trailer. Wonder what could have caused it? Not enough grease somewhere?

I had an incident too. All my trailer lights when totally out, when I passed one the these pesky FedEx hauling double trailers the driver flashed the lights so fast as if a terrible emergency I tought my tires blew off or something. Oddly enough only the parking lights where out but brake and signal worked fine. So I turned to my old reliable Alfa and turned it's parking light on and cruised home.

Ted, if you catch this note I'll be calling you soon! :P

I was real lucky, I have never lost a trailer before. The only thing I can think of that caused the pin to come out was that maybe the saftey chains caught the clip and pulled it out when I did a sharp corner. I am switching to a locking pin :!: Imagine if that hitch fell out at 65 mph on the highway.

Stephan when you left me at the gas station on the highway your taillights were not working.

Holy crap Dan, that's scary. I've often though about the weakest link when hauling the car in/on a trailer. You have 12,000 lbs behind the truck being held on by a 3/4" thick pin, held in place by a small cotter pin. Scary when you really think about it.

A few years ago, we had a small tire trailer jump off the hitch heading to The Glen on 90 in Buffalo. That was just a couple hundred pound Harbor Freight trailer behind a Mustang. I can't imagine a full enclosed trailer.

Stephan,
They weren't working when you left the track. I followed you out of the track and down the hill. I was going to jump out and tell you at the light but it turned green just before we got there. You went straight and I went left.

12,000lbs? My truck,20' encl.trailer and car weigh a total of 9,800lbs. Guess I am a light traveller.

What's that gas grille weigh? :D

Sam has a tuner chip in his grill which illegally increases boost pressure so that the effective temperature for meat is raised by the square of the increase in boost provided. I say he should be protested and forced to drive an automatic Sentra for the rest of the season as his punishment.

And when not using in his grill it's in his car right?

Thanks for the info on the parking lights. Ted is coming over and we'll check it all out.
