How About Iced Lake Events?

With all the talk about track fees, am sure we could get events for cheap by driving on lakes... As Dan Darcy mentioned snow driving, anmd what do you know today i got a spam e-mail for owners from the factory in Italy. It says:

"The Ferrari "On Ice" Driving Course is the latest addition to the list of services available to Prancing Horse clients.
Between February 20th and 24th the F430's 500 hp will be put to good use against the gorgeous snow- and icebound backdrop of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Italian Dolomites.
The one-day course will offer participants a truly unique and exciting opportunity to experience extreme conditions at the Palus San Marco circuit under the watchful eye of the official Ferrari Driving Course instructors....
The following morning it's off to the track for the first instalment of the action. After spending some time testing the grip level of the track and the snow tyres, the driving sessions proper get underway.
During these the instructors will teach the participants how to control the cars' power oversteer progressively and safely. They'll also learn how to control the pendulum effect through bends and a slalom.
After lunch and a break to recoup after the busy morning, the participants will complete various dynamic exercises over a course comprising circles and tight corners. The programme culminates in an exciting speed trial that will really put the participants' skill and sensitivity behind the wheel to test, as well as guaranteeing some great fun...

So how about it guys, put on the Blizzak tires and have some fun? Of course i'd have to buy another car (probably a throw away Miata), but so what. If you have never had at it on an iced lake, you'll LOVE it Frankly, have had more fun on iced lakes than on certain (non-COMSCC) track days.

I'm planning on doing ice autocross events with boston chapter BWMCCA this winter if they have any events. They havent had decent ice to have an event the past two years.

There has been a rallycross at new england dragway in Feb in the past. I am planning on attending that if it's held this year. Sounds like it will be a good time.

COM used to have an ice autocross during its Winter Weekend about 30 years ago. lots of fun!!!

It looks doubtful that the ice racing series will run again this year. Unless Newfound Lake got at least 8" of ice in the designated area before the recent snows, it would result in thin ice and seepage up through the snow.
Speaking of snow, as the first day of winter approaches, The official total for Concord, NH this month is 31.4 ", and another 1.6" will make it the 3d highest snowfall amount for the month of December. Bring on that Global Warming!!

You do realize that global warming could cause increased precipitation, right?

Now if you had a Subaru, you could be having a blast drifting through every intersection. Of course, I don't have a Subaru either, so I have to resort to e-brake nonsense to get the Elantra (GT!) to drift, but it's not really the same experience

Raj: you have not mastered that Korean vehicle yet... no need to use e-brake. Matter of fact careful as it might fall off

BTW: I do fine 4-wheel slide with my 1999 Cherokee
