Hi Sam;
I could not make it either as I was in Germany/Austria.
Rented a Mercedes ML 320 Turbo Diesel with 6 speed paddle shifter so I did "practice" a little in the Autobhan and in the Austrian Alps.
I thought I was going fast (200 km/hr ++) but I could not shake the other cars near me as everyone was doing those kind of speeds.
Now I propose we send a letter to our state reps and authorities that all highways in the USA be like the Autobhan... 8)

yahahahahaha- that would be carnage at it's best! Between Soccer Mom's in SUV's on their cell phones, teen age girls on their cell phones, leaf peepers, Gray hairs, and the teenage ricer types, I would rather sit home and watch the a game of golf (and you know how exciting that is!).

I envy you as I sure do miss the autobahns, though. I guess you could say I learned to drive in Germany, went over as a 20 yr old and spent 7 years in everything from a Judson supercharged 40hp beetle, 180 hp turbo Corvair Corsa, 2002 Bimmer, to my Alfa 1750 GTV. It was a good experience!! :D
Glad you are back safely.
There may be at least one Mazda 3, SCC, car at NHIS that COULD be very competitive. Just a heads up!

Anyone see the Ariel Atom at the test day? The owner came to our shop right from the track. He's having no luck getting it registered for the street in MA. The test day was his first seat time in the car. Supercharged Honda power. I took some pictures, maybe we'll get them up on our website someday.

Hmmmm, yep. I saw the Atom there. I guess the owner was just taking easy. Had no problem keeping up.
Seeing it in person, I can understand trouble registering it! It looks like a builder quit 3/4 of the way through.
There not a lot of people there, too bad, the weather was fantastic. Steve Pope was there and John/Nate/Allison. John/Nate had a Formula Renault(?). It was business as usual for Nate, he enjoys spinning anything in Turn 3 from the looks of it :D

That would be great, but first the USA would have to actually make roads that can handle said speeds. The Germans use MUCH thicker and more durable/level surface on their autobahn than what we have up here in New England (and the USA in general). Of course the Florida main highways are in pretty good condition, but they lack the twisties and have <cough>heard<cough> about 14 years ago that once you are going 150+mph on a Florida highway it gets boring in only a handful of minutes.

Last thing we need in a bunch of yahoos in New England doing over 120mph and having their car launch sideways due to lousy paving and the bumpy transitions on/off bridges. The European drivers tend to also be a bit more educated in proper driving techniques (imo). This may be due to more strict education/requirements to obtain a license in certain European countries.

Of course i'd welcome something along the lines of Norschleife in every state of the Union where the law of survival of the fittest will keep the proper amount of chlorine in the gene pool of life.
Enjoy the Track,

I was there as well. Great session, except for some contact when one of the open-cockpit cars tried an ambitious pass on a lotus elise in 10.

Actually, the Lotus is in ST1, and we haven't seen a fast one yet.

I assumed Sam was referring to Dave Reeves running in ST2. It has been a couple of years since Dave has run with COM but he used to put down some pretty good times at tracks like WGI and LR.

Oh. In that case, Sam shouldn't be allowed to run away with ST2 without beating some fast M3s

Unfortunately my car was out of commission for most of this year. Hopefully I'll be able to make it there for lime rock, though.
