"The Club at Lime Rock Park's first full season will be 2008. However, there are four dates reserved this Fall for QUALIFIED Club applicants to sample the facilities."

Now, looking forward, if all those improvements come at minimal cost to the clubs renting track days - hooray! Call me a pessimist, but my bet is that ain't going to happen!

So we now have LRP looking for $100k guys...

Tamworth seeking $5k on up guys...

A NJ track seeking high $ guys...

A NY track seeking the same $...

Bruce's SCCA thing in MA seeking $.

They all need to get together and find a way to do major marketing and conduct fund sharing on the money raised. Maybe a television thing like they do with Jerry's Kids or that recent Earth music event? They could raise millions within 24 hours!

60 days out of the approx. 200 available dates gone....

I like LRP as much as the next guy, but I hope this plan blows up in his face, and someone else buys the place in a couple years at the foreclosure auction and runs it for us "regular " folks

DATE: July 10, 2007
RE: The Club at Lime Rock Park

We announced the formation of a new club on Saturday, in a press conference during the ALMS event. The attached document is an interview with Skip that will appear in the next Track Record. I understand at first blush you might be concerned as it means shared days, but it also means drastically reduced rents on those days. Please read Skipâ€™s interview. It points out that this is the only way to really make all of the improvements at Lime Rock that we all want, paving, new bathrooms, etc. and to guarantee the next 50 years. Also, in 5 years, when the Skip Barber Racing School renews their lease, they will take fewer days and some additional time will come back. We also believe some small clubs will leave over the next couple of years. Soâ€¦short term pain; huge long term gain and Lime Rock Park stays on as a greatly improved race track.

Our plan of sharing time (alternating sessions) wonâ€™t impact the calendar, dates wonâ€™t move around because of The Club.

This site is a work in progress and we will continue to update it with press articles and information as it comes available.

Ensuring the Next 50 Years for Lime Rock Park

Skip Barber, President of Lime Rock Park, has announced his plan for the future of the track. The objective is guaranteeing that Lime Rock remains the premier race course in the Northeast; that the facility is significantly improved without losing any of its charm or character; and that when Skip eventually retires he will bequeath to future custodians a beautiful facility and a viable business. As a huge step towards these goals Skip has created The Club at Lime Rock Park.

TR: What is The Club?
SB: The Club is an opportunity for a limited number of people, 300 maximum, to have significant track time with 60 dates annually to choose from while also enjoying the company of like-minded enthusiasts.

Membership cost: $100,000. Length of membership: 50 years.
Membership can be passed down in the family or resold through The Club.

My biggest fear is that, if the business and finances of Lime Rock Park are not sufficiently strong, the value of this beautiful piece of property could exceed its value as a racetrack and that some future owner will be tempted to convert it to a golf course. Like what happened at Bridgehampton.

TR: Why will The Club ensure Lime Rock Parkâ€™s future?
SB: First, we will be signing a lot of 50-year contracts.

Secondly, membership dollars will be used to improve the entire Park. This is a good way to guarantee that all improvements on the â€œwish listâ€

Wow!! They really are planning on selling lots of 50 year memberships at $100,000. But what the hay, we get to run alternating sessions with the rich and famous. Wanna bet there won't be too many rich and famous running in the snow with COM.
Other than some guy named Amalfitano, I don't know of many NH dudes that are that rich and/or famous. Good luck to them.

Then we'll get to watch our time get squeezed even more watching the clean-up after some rich newbie guy balls up his GT3 trying to impress his new friends...

We are getting Al Gore's son. He has the money and has proven that you can drive a Prius at 100 mph while high on pot and pills. We need to get him off the public roads.

Bruce, would love ALL tracks in the works to open. The more the better for all involved. Am just thinking instead of you helping the SCCA thing, the other guys doing their thing... how about a meeting on the minds to get a single, large event to help everyone?

It is kinda sad LRP is now taking even more $$$ away from future tracks to help their existing one. Kinda killing off the competition per se. Calabogie is a great example of an excellent new track and the folks there were so warm and welcoming too.

Are they really saying $100k for 50 years and 60 days a year? That's $33 a day on the track. I must have misunderstood something. Must be added fees or else this is a bargain at an established track (meaning one that already exists).

It's a bargain if you've got $100K in your pocket. I can afford $33 a day, even for 5 days a month, but I don't have $100K to drop right now. If I did, I'd invest it and use the interest to buy all the track time I can handle.
