Group Buy

Post by offcamber09 » Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:04 pm

This is not a self-promoting pitch. I have been contacted by a few members asking about the rims I use on my Mustang. I have set up an account with the wholesale division of Discount Tire and can get the MB Weapon rims in 17x9 5x114.3 27mm offset (perfect for Mustangs with Cobra or Cobra R brakes) for $110ea. shipped. This is my cost- I will not profit from this unless you want me to mount and balance them. We need to purchase at least 12 rims to qualify. I have 8 rims sold. I'm not sure, but there may be even deeper discounts if the group buy gets larger. The rims are available in gunmetal or bronze. The 2 people that I have interested, want them for NHIS 1 so this needs to happen within the next week. Thanks.

Scott - You may want to speak with Troy V. The local chapter of SVTOA has 17 members attending an event at Summit Point in May.

Hi Scott.. 110 per is a great deal.. I can pass the word to my chapter message list..

FYI.. The set I had were the +17mm offsett, and it seemed like they fit fine with no rubbing.. I'm sure the 27's will be fine as well.

Yes they do 17x8 and 17x7 in the Weapon rims. I'm sure it varies by application.

FYI I have placed the 1st order of 16 rims. I think I can get that price on subsequent orders with a little smooth talking.

Scott,
I know this is a real long shot, but is there any chance they'd consider a BMW fitment? Ever since the Kosei K1 went out of production there's been a lot of demand for a suitable replacement. Right now there is nothing reasonable for our cars and the used Koseis are worth their weight in gold.

I know it's not easy for a manufacturer to change their tooling, but maybe there's a way to make this work with the blanks they already have.

15x8 (or 17x8)
+20mm offset (+17 should be fine also)
5x120
72mm bore (I'd have to confirm)

There'd be much more demand for 15x8 but there may also be interest in 17x8.
The +17mm offset should work fine.
5x120 doesn't sound too far off from their current 5x114.3. Although, I have no idea if this is simply a drilling issue or if the recesses are cast into the blanks.

Just a thought.

How much and what do they look like?

Scott, if you place another order after Watkins Glen, I may be interested in a set also. Have to see how the finances are holding up!
Are you going to W.G.?

Mick I'll check into the BMW specs and let you know- it's going to be a busy day Sat. you have 12 tires ? I also have Joel Adams and Craig Herrick coming in. plus Raj's dad's street tires.

Bill good to hear from you- let me know when you're ready and we'll beat the best price out of them. WGI is killing me being so close to the NHIS date. I opened a new shop in October and it's getting very busy. I'm affraid this season is going to be a sacrifice to get the shop on the right track. I would love to run some laps nose to tail with you at the Glen, but it can't happen this year. I still need to build a tranny for NHIS.

Ah, I just re-read your original post and realized you're dealing with a dealer not directly with the manufacturer.

Just 2 sets of tires... and I'm not even sure about the 2nd set, so it may only be one. I plan on getting there at 8:00.

It is the right trade off though.. You have a hell of a shop there....plus your team is comprised of good people. :)

I'm not going to make it to the Glen.. I have an SVTOA commitment at Summit point Shenandoah....some stupid rule that all the region's chapter directors must attend or something like that. :) That's fine.. I know you ultra track dudes here aren't too crazy about that course, but I love it.

I plan to run all of the NHIS practice days, both days of Tremblant, and I'm really trying to swing Mosport...but I might not be able to get the time off.. ....and I'll probably go to LRP this year..
