Another Awesome NHIS Event!

Attendance seemed a little lighter than most NHIS events this past Monday/Tuesday.

Nice, safe event with minimal on-track incidents and/or down-time.

Flaggers & control ran a very smooth event.

The weather was awesome, perfect for two days.

The track conditions were very good, and NHIS cleaned the track for us each morning.

The BBQ dinner at the track was great. Good burgers, great dogs, cookies, and of course, macaroons. This is a must-do at our October NHIS event. Hopefully, the weekend date will inspire more to join us for dinner (we had about 40-50).

A good number of students earned their license, and several were signed to solo for day 2.

Time trials seemed to go off without a hitch. Which leads to...

AN HOUR AND A HALF OF OPEN TRACK! Time trials were done just after 3. There was a short break for the workers, than an hour and a half of open track time. The open track time, by itself, was more track time than most clubs give you in one days!!

I have completed the revised track records, concluded the review of the time trial data and updated the Y-T-D standings.

I assume they will get posted on the web site this evening or next.

On a side note - thank you to Jim and Carl for the use of the Neon Expresso and to Jason and Sam for the use of the Nissan for the time trial.

Yes, Awesome event. I doubt any other club puts on as smooth a running show! Nice too that we pulled in quite a bit of new blood, that's how to keep COM healthy. At least 2 entries from the Albany, NY area, but missed that Subaru group of the flying Irishman, Jason M. and Raj. ST2 has become quite a competitive group! Ron and I need to find that hidden engine Frank has installed!
No problem Mark, an event wouldn't be complete without members sharing rides, I think that makes us (COM) pretty unique.

This was only my 2nd COM event and my first Time Trial on Day 2. Every aspect of the event was great and I look forward to October and beyond to next year.

I have met some very nice and welcoming people at both events and that is much appreciated by us newbies!

Thanks to all the COM members & officers as well as the track workers who put on such a great event for the membership.

There were some new and interesting cars also, like the V8 Austin and Noble. I love the variety of cars.

And as Will mentioned, 1 1/2 HOURS of open track at NHIS, that must be a first.

Much like the Alpha, one can never grow tired of looking at Miatas.

Thats said, variety is the spice of life!

Lets not forget the Austin Healy, the Elises, the Skyline, Cayman S, and of course, the Neon!

Wow! Yes, we drove the wheels off the neon and it sure was fun! But I'm not convinced that it belongs in the company of the other fine cars mentioned.

First of all, Italian lesson number one: "Alpha" is not a brand of a car .. ALFA is.
Second, I may be tired of SOME Miata's in my mirrors but not all of them.
"Some" of the Miatas "may" include SPC class (but not all of them), some in ST-4. Perhaps occasionally one each in SSB or SSC, depending on the conditions.
No, not getting tired yet. But yes, I'd like to drive of these "toys" one day and check it out.

All kidding aside, I have a ton of respect and admiration for the Miata. I joke a lot (and continuously pester John Spain) about "the fake Giulietta" but I admire the endurance, handling and cost effectiveness of the Miata. You guys would not have been driving it (most of you changed from other cars into the Miata) if it wasn't at least a ton of fun to drive it.

And you overlooked another new (and also red) car.......the 2nd place ST4 Nissan 200SX....first time out for this car! I managed 10 or so laps of open practice in the car and can say I enjoyed it as much as...gulp... the Speed 3! Jay did a tremendous job of bringing a beater to life!
Carl, sorry you didn't get a chance to drive the 200SX, we burst a radiator hose and went down for repairs. Thanks to Lester, we cobbled up a hose and Jay was able to drive the beast home.
