Local mechanic to central MA

Post by ryanthieme » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:33 pm

My mother is looking for a local mechanic to do brake work on her Lexus RX300. The dealership quoted her ~$500 which seems like a lot to do pads and rotors, though I haven't done any research to back this up.

She's located in Upton, so anything in central mass would be good.

If they're doing all four, it seems like a reasonable rate. I think the pads and rotors themselves will cost around 300-350 for all four.

Not at a dealership. Its probably about $100-130 per rotor and another $80 or so for pads. So ~$300 for parts and 1.5-2.0 hours of labor @ ~$100/hr puts you right near $500 for just one axle. It was $98.95/hr when I worked at Lexus two years ago, so I'm sure they're up to $104-$109 by now.

You could probably find a small garage right in Upton to do it for around $300 parts and all. Or you could do her a favor and do it for her with $150 in parts from NAPA.

Unfortunately, time is something of the essence and all my free time is tied up getting ready for my wedding in a couple weeks. All the last minute appointments and errands we have to run on the weekend means I can't do the job for her. I'm also not very close to their house to do it after work.

I'll pass along Chang as a possibility.

Thanks.

Many know Chang, he runs on almost every NER autoX and every NE ProSolo and National autoXs. I have never heard of a complaint regarding his mechanic skills or prices.
