Change the class of the Toyota MR2 SC to SSB.<br>
<br>
But the car should remain in SPB. Sorry Tommy.

What about regular MR2s?

Post by AudHaus » Tue Nov 19, 2002 8:19 am

I believe I've been beaten by one of these SC MR2s in SSA the one time one showed up. And when I was in SSB, the regular NA MR2s were quite competitive. They and the Miatas were regularly the winning cars. So this wouldn't be fair to them.

what about regular MR2s?

Post by mr2sc » Tue Nov 19, 2002 10:43 am

Hi<br>
Hmm..its kind of hard to figure how one could have been a serious contender in SSA...must have been a rather weak field that day?<br>
<br>
FWIW, lbs/hp and potential would give it no advantage over a 1.8l Miata in SSB. Furthermore, the Miatas have better chassis/suspension.<br>
<br>
Similarly, there is no reason that the 1.6l NA version should not compete against similar 1.6l Miatas in SSC. The MR2s are in fact heavier.<br>
<br>
Frankly, just because "one" happened to do well "once" (I suspect expertly driven by Jeff M at the time?) doesn't mean they suddenly outgun all the Miatae.<br>

Whom you callin' weak field?

Post by AudHaus » Tue Nov 26, 2002 10:39 pm

Well, grumble grumble, I don't know about that. But the result speaks for itself. He was 1.4 seconds behind Dan Malek, which is generally pretty competitive. This is my worst place finish since I got the TT and found myself in SSA. It's because that darn MR2 and BMW showed up. Larry Simmons, wearing an instructor shirt, drove it. (Instructor shirts easily shave seconds off your time. They still haven't given me mine. :^) )<br>

<br>
Seriously, look at the 1998 final points standings:<br>
<!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://users.rcn.com/comscc/results/sea ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br>
Fred Sanford (Miata) and Nelson Davis (MR2) slugged it out all year for a close finish. Ultimately, Fred was faster in the Miata. A SC MR2 would probably kill SSB. Tom Ryan (MR2) and I (Audi 4kq) were generally mid-pack, but he had gotten faster than I by the time I moved out of that class. The 4kq was generally not very competitive. It wasn't my driving, of course.

Hi<br>
<br>
Hard to divine the meaning of that...specific drivers at different levels of skill and development at the time...<br>
<br>
I was basing my reply on actual laptimes at specific venues and not what a given driver managed to attain on a particular day.<br>
<br>
In other words, I suggest that your observations may be more of a comparison of drivers than of their weapons. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START 8) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/glasses.gif ALT="8)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

Could be. I just know I couldn't beat MR2s and Miatas, but could beat all the Hondas. And Fred kept getting faster and faster the following year. So my impression at the time was that Miatas were the car to have in that class, with MR2s a close second.

Maybe, but my TT was reasonably competitive right out of the box, before I even got good at driving it. I don't think I could have wrung much more out of that 4kq.

COM rules Sec IX SSA

Post by mr2sc » Sat Feb 15, 2003 6:30 pm

just came across this...shows just how much quicker a stock 180hp Audi TT "really" is around a race track than a MR2SC.<br>
<br>
<!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.car-videos.com/performance/v ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br>
<br>
...as well as how a stock Miata will absolutely smoke a MR2 SC around the same track...<br>
<br>
<!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.car-videos.com/performance/v ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br>
<br>
(and I was comparing against a Miata...sheesh!)<br>
<br>
Really...the rulemakers would not have had to fear having MR2 SCs stealing class wins...even if they would have been reclassed fairly<br>
<br>
cheers<br>
Tommy<br>
<br>
ps the MR2 SCs 0-30mph advantage is of little use in time trialing <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

watch M3's

With the E30 M3 back in SSA, I don't think the MR2 SC will be the biggest concern. <br>
