You make a good point and last night was thinking, why did i butt into something that, frankly, does not concern me. i should have STFU because it matters not what other classifications do. If someone in the Miata/etc classifications have problems, they have rules set forth in the GCR to protest and that is their right. So you make a very good point and will bow out of this.

Interesting string. Let me offer a few comments from a Corner Worker's perspective- I worked on Station 1 (Porsche incident) on Saturday and Station 5 (black flag) on Sunday.
SCCA officials are well aware of the aggressive driving in some SCCA classes, especially SM and ITA and the Flaggers are asked to report all contact and whether we feel the contact was unavoidable or avoidable (intentional or just plain stupid). No drivers were black flagged for driving behavior, but many received mechanical black flags for damage resulting from contact. The Stewards are trying to manage the situation without being heavy handed. To be fair to the drivers I didn't hear many calls over the radio for avoidable contact and those I heard were described as resulting from lack of oxygen to the driver's brain (in other words- stupidity).
To Jim's point, the SM and ITA fields tend to be large and these are typically momentum cars trying to carry as much speed into corners as possible- stuff is bound to happen.
