Dave Macpherson was killed at the end of the straight away going into turn one. Dave was a friend and lived here in Danville. I am unable to find out right now what killed him,or what kind of H&N system he was using. I was at VIR and found out late.

From www.bmwcca.org:
As was sadly announced early Saturday morning, we have lost one of our own. BMW CCA member and club racer David MacPherson passed away following an incident on Friday, October 28, 2005 during a BMW CCA club race at New Hampshire International Speedway. Our deepest condolences go out to David's family. He resided in Danville, Virginia and was a member of the Tarheel Chapter.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in the name of David MacPherson to the Danville Area Humane Society, c/o Paulette Dean, 1000 South Boston Road, Danville, VA 24540.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1st from 7 to 8:30 PM at the Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main, Danville, VA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Danville, VA.
The full obituary and funeral information may be read at www.registerbee.com.
If anyone is able to learn more about the cause of this fatality, I would be grateful if you would post it. I have previously been able to comfort myself (utilizing the usual racer's selective blindness) with the idea that the other 3 recent deaths in track days or amateur racing this year were in cars that are much faster than mine. Not so with Dave MacPherson's BMW, I would have to assume. I'd particularly like to know if he was wearing a head-neck restraint, but also the cause and nature of the accident. Also if he missed the SAFER barrier, or what.

Nate,
It is my understanding that any definitive information about the cause of Dave's crash, if available, will eventually be released through BMW CR, assuming the family wishes anything to be released. Really all that we know was that it was a high G, single car incident in NASCAR 1. I was not there on Friday after blowing a head gasket and did not find out until Saturday morning when I got to the track. It was a very sobering driver's meeting and a day and weekend full of emotion to say the least.
For reference to the Miata Nate, Dave was going quickly, setting a new lap record for his class during the race with 1:12.9, a true racer to the end. Although I didn't know Dave personally, my thoughts have been with him and his family all week. This was the first serious injury, let alone death in the 10 year history of BMW CR but does highlight the inherent dangers in our sport and if anything, will hopefully make people think first about safety when going on the track.

I posted this on the IT site. I forgot to get back to it here. Dave was not wearing a H&N system. Some one who was on track with him says it may have been a heart attack." went close to pit out wall and them up into the outside wall with the brake lights on but did not slow the car," (or words to that effect) I was told it was internal injurys. I wont ask his wife any of this for anything. Insurance or any # of things could be up over this kind of thing.
My interest was what kind of H&N was used. Turns out he was not wearing anything. I know Dave has a Hans, cant tell why it was not on at the time.
