Edit: just noticed you mention 245/45/17... I would need 275/40/17 for the front..
275/40 are backordered, but cost $185 plus shipping when available.

315/35 are $259 plus shipping

Thanks for all the responce

I run Hoshiers in the dry so I'm only looking for wet tire. I only drive the car on the street less than 300 miles a year.

I had not thought of the Goodyears. I had them on my Z06 and they were great in the rain (for that car) I even drove it in the snow a couple of times with them.

I agree with Raj that a 3700# Mustang is different on tires than a 2400# Miata is. -----Did I say I agree with Raj  That can't be

I have to go away for a week so I won't be able to do much on tires until after the July NHIS -- I just hope it doesn't rain :)

I shouldn't tell you...
But I ran full tread RA-1s a couple years back when I got 2nd (twice) in SPA in the raint time trials. I like them as my rain tires just fine

I run bald RA1s in wet weather, they work better than any street tires I had at full tread. THe only time they show problem is if I am at high speeds. In the wet, I lapped abotu 15 sec slower at Shenandoah. Of course, I got caught in the nor`easter on the way home.

I have 17" wheels that will take a 245 x17 and my Mustang is heavy 3700 # plus with out driver. I was using Pirelli P Zeros on 18" rims, they were ok but expensive.
At 200 mi a year, Dan could run any tire. I have been amazed at NHIS open track days in the rain following spec miatas with full tread RA1's. The stick in the corners was really impressive.
I'll probably get a set for my rains budget permiting. I'm on Yoko AVS 100's now. Not bad for a cheap tire.

I think the Folia's were running the hoosier wets on their RX-3 a few years ago at nhis. He got FTD that event.
