Alas, can't drive the FC on public roads (leagally) and even if i had the tintop, my friend told me years ago it is good to have a trailer just in case...

Trailering adds a huge cost to track days, but it also adds a good bit of peace of mind and comfort.

I drove to Mt. Tremblant last year in my RX-7. I made it there on one tank of gas. That was about $80 round trip in fuel costs. Gas for the van costs more than triple that.

Well, I trailered my car to the track. But it was driven back cause I trailered a very bent car back.
I agree about the cost (and slower travel time), but agree also on the peace of mind. Having a covered hauler will come in handy during sloppy weather, me thinks!

I trailered up and left the car on the trailer a few hours from Mosport so both trips won't cost as much for fuel.

Having been a convoy commander in 'nam and Germany, perhaps only I understand that the last vehicle travels at greater speeds than the front one. Part of that accordian effect, ya know. And, I was that tail end charlie.
As for faster in the rain, yes, I agree with Steve. :!: I could see you take a bead on a slower moving vehicle, so I had the old diesel floored before you made your move!

I can't see ever being able to afford a tow rig with three kids in school and a mortgage to pay off. Perhaps I need to find another line of work.

OTOH, driving your car to and from the track gives quite a bit of satisfaction as well. Good thing I have a big heavy car with four doors for all the crap that comes along with a track weekend!

Jim: IMHO a car trailer hardly looses value. I am looking for a new one (I too kids in school, mortgage, etc., etc., as you desbrided) knowing when I decide to re-sell the value will be maintained.


I drove from NH to the Glen in April. Had issues: noise, speed, and left my kidneys in Albany :?
I trailered to Calabogie: had a blast, driving there with the "caravan": walkie-talkie chat, comraderie build-up, meet others along the way, etc., plus the 2-day sessions.

I started using a trailering last year. Before the trailer, I drove the car and towed a small tire trailer behind it. Ahhh...the good old days. There is something to be said about arriving to the track in the car which you will be "racing" in. Packing and unpacking seemed so quick and easy. Gas mileage couldn't be beat. The down side, especially in a top-down convertible, is that the drive can take a bit out of you.

Your point isn't lost though. Seems we get more and more trailer pullers each year. :)
