Calabogie Rocked!
As always, another awesome COMSCC event! Seeing the track map, and video, does the track little justice imho. What do you gals and guys think? Definately a tighter track than expected, yet once pretty much familiar with the twenty-gazillion turns... It was kinda funny seeing such virgin tarmac at the beginning and then being able to follow the trails of anti-freeze stains and seeing the many fresh rubber spins/offs.
Very challenging track with an interesting set of skill combinations.
Of course MANY MANY thanks to those who helped belt me into the Yellow Tuna Can or YTC for short (new nickname for car).
i vote Calabogie in for 2008!
ADDED: PS: Monday the weather was overcast yet no rain and Tuesday was the PERFECT day with around 80F trmps and sunny. The track, which is very grippy, was just right for time trials. Those COMSCC'ers who missed Calabogie should make a point to hop on it next year!

Calabogie was a great time!! My first day was cut short by my own carelessness after 5 seconds on track . The second day made up for it though The sound police caught up with me too Sam, Will, Greg, Bruce, and Stephan teamed up with a solution of steel wool and a web of saftey wire to satisfy even the most sensitive ear More manic race days. It was well worth the trip!

Calabogie
Great track!! Management very helpful and considerate. They allowed Gary's Indycar a few laps even though he failed the sound test BIG time!! COM should dump money pit Mosport and ask for a second date @ Calabogie next year. The 30 or so people who run Mosport cost the club a lot of money. We can't keep depending on 4 NHIS events to keep COM solvent. We had a great turnout @ Calabogie with about 65-70 cars. DUMP MOSPORT!!

The track is awesome. One of the track's owners (Bruce) was having an open lapping day on Wednesday and Paddy and I did some laps from 9am-noon. We corded the hell out of our race tires and destroyed whatever little brake pad I had left. Totally worth it - I think I've to bail out of NHIS now
With regards to Mosport, PLEASE do not dump Mosport. It's one of the best tracks that we have now. I think the club needs to do better scheduling with it though. Last year, we had TWO Mosport events, and the second one had predictably poor turnout. This year, Mosport is scheduled 2 weeks after Calabogie, which also hurts attendance.
I'm all for an extra event at Calabogie if the club can produce participation rates similar to the last one.

It seems to me that both slow and fast cars loved it. There were connected turns, blind apexes and several trail braking turns all of which make for challenge and allow Miatas well driven to embrass some big iron. The number of spins and two significant crashes prove that it was not an easy track to master but I thought there was great flow turn to turn.
I think we should sign up very soon for a June or July date next year so we can enjoy Calabogie lake and Jocko's Beach. If I had to choose I would take Calaboogity over Mosport. More challenging, longer and 100 miles less drive.
By the way, I have the best way through Montreal: coming back, get off 40 on 13 South for 2 miles to 20 East that joind RT 10 to go over the bridge. By passes most of the downtown Montral traffic.

So glad you read my directions ... we (Shawn, Gregg, Sam, Steven and I) caravaned our way up there and I was leading them thru the "Montreal by-pass". According to Sam's GPS we beat the time by about 1/2 hourbrucesallen wrote: More challenging, longer and 100 miles less drive.

In all of Bruce's modesty he forgot to tell you readers that he holds not only the club's FTD but also the Track's track RECORD! To date, he is the fastest man in Calabogie and has set the pace! Bravo! =D>

Calabogie was great. Nice long technical track with perfect pavement. Everyone was friendly and helpful and genuinely seemed to be happy we were there. Fun track, but it is no Mosport. Not even 1 "fear for your life" turn.
Frankly I just don't get it. Mosport is the cheapest track we go to and I think it is the most driver challenging. If we have fair attendence we should make money. Why more members don't go is beyond me. It is almost the same distance as Summit, Mt Tremblant, and Calabogie and is an easy tow. Does 50 miles either way really make a difference weather you attend an event or not?
I think 2 events in 1 year for any track is a bad idea, we finally have enough choices that we have to pick which tracks to go to. Dump Mosport? NEVER!!!!!

As for Mosport, it's almost back to back away events. I am not complaining. I even recommended to some that because of the closeness of these 2 events (Calabogie and Mosport) and if the car was in good order one could consider leaving the car in Canada somewhere and return part of the way w/o having to haul the entire distance.
FYI I am going to Mosport. First ever. I need the points, those Bradshaw brothers cahooting with Alisson are giving me good competition.
Mark, your turn now: Can you show me the line at Mosport? Hope the one I gave you in Calabogie gave you those extra time to beat me.
Did you actually go that way? We reached the 13 South exit to find it was closed, and we ended up on a detour through crowded surface streets all the way down to 20. We had gone the same way going north, and while 13 was open, the traffic was thick, and stop-and-go in places. But most importantly, Calabogie did indeed rock. It's a fantastic track, and I can't wait to go back and do it better. I've been looking at my datalogger files and finding places I can get at least another second.
Now I'm looking forward to Mosport. As different as Mosport and Calabogie are, I'd be hard pressed to pick which track I like better. Thank goodness I don't have to choose.
