Test and tune at NHIS

Post by mossaidis » Tue May 29, 2007 2:57 pm

Anyone been at a NHIS test and tune day? is it crazy? or bearable for even an experienced NHIS driver?

I went on May 10. Only about 25 cars there, two run groups. One for "vintage" 10 minute sessions and open group for 20 min sessions.
Pretty tame, except for Raj biting the inside Armo at turn 1! Lots of track time and the only weirdness is the there is only a flag man at pit out and one in the "tree house" up on the hill. Just have to watchout for debris, oil and spinning Loti (almost have a new one for lunch in 2b). Not bad at all!

NHIS test day

Post by grovefromnh » Wed May 30, 2007 6:20 am

Track is considered 'open' so passing is allowed anywhere. Usually, half of the day is for motorcycles- half for cars. check with track for schedule as it changes who runs when. Great time to bed in a couple of sets of brake pads foe future events. Try different tire pressures, driving lines, etc. Aside from the fun of lots of tracktime, you can learn a lot also.

I went to one last year and definitely a good deal. $100 for half a day, no tech, drivers meeting, and every one was at least as courtious as at a com event. Actually it is amazing how people in slower cars will point you by if they know you can pass them anyway.

Sounds like fun without the crazies!

Anyone been to an open track day at LRP?

I never to an unmuffled, open track day at LRP held by PDA. It was awesome, 95 degrees and sunny, just the conditions my car handles the best in. I have not done one run by the track, on their website; they require a competition license (SCCA, NASA, FIA, etc). I have not inquired about a com license, but I would doubt it.

NHIS open is fun, but occasionally there ARE crazies. Not often, but it happens and remember safety level/flagging is GREATLY REDUCED so just be careful.
Enjoy the Track,

Went to open track day last Friday. Very few cars were there and it provided all the test time one could possibly expect. I sat out a couple of sessions as it was very hot and I had turned in more laps that my old tired body could handle without loosing consintration

All good signs of a track day. COM will always better for many reasons. but due to scheduling conflicts and NHIS being booked overnight, open track days might be the next best thing.
