R compound tires.
R compound tires.
Looking for advice, and hope to get recommendations, on picking some R compounds for the red wagon. Fairly heavy car, 3150#, about 60% - 1800# on the front.
On the less expensive side, Stephan, how did you feel the NT-01's performed? Has anyone run Avon Tech Ras? BFG Geforce R1s?

If you are moving to race rubber, you might want to evaluate your alignment settings and dial in a bit more camber.

I had Yokohamas, Kuhmos, Toyos and Nittos. Here is my 2 cts:
Yokohama = definatly a rain tire, awesome rain tire. Beinf the rain-man I am I absolutely count on those and had great results;
Kuhmos = good tires but wear out fast.
Toyos = great tires, reliable, long-lasting, forgiving (when you spin) and good prive for the quality of the tire. I measure the price of tire like I rate a good wine .. it's all about price/quality ratio.
Nitto = Tried it at WGI and had a grea time with it. Felt it fast faster than the Toyos and equally reliable. Minor peeve was it squealed like a street tire at times but hey! who's listening? Great price/quality ratio.
If you do't want to spend $$ on Hoosiers my 2cts is go with Nitto.

Hey Frank -- if Sam doesn't want your old tires do you think I could used them on my Mustang The light Mustang has a tendency to eat up rubber but those Kelly Springfields should last a long time

The Avons are not very quick, but will last quite a while- BTW they are THE most difficult R compound tire to mount. I wasn't aware of BF Goodrich getting back into the R compound market again until your post. The last generation of R1s had a habit of forming a groove of doom right down the middle- even when not over-inflated. I'm sure the new tire is better. I would use the Kuhmo 710 again, as I've said in other threads, the tires do fall off some after several laps in a heavy car, but they do stabilize- they do not continue to fall off. They are great time trial tires because they come up to full stick very quickly. Stephan, I thought the tire squeel I got at WGI was odd as well- I was on 2 year old Hoosiers (Thanks Greg R.)

I was using Hoosiers R6 that were new for Lime Rock in the Fall , and I thought I was on regular street tires with the screach they made at Watkins .Stephan, I thought the tire squeel I got at WGI was odd as well- I was on 2 year old Hoosiers
I have never had the Hoosiers squeel like that
Also thanks to everybody for a great time at WGI and the "Birthday Card". I got passed by Ryan C and Joe L in the ST1 and than they even passed me on the highway on the way home. I guess life has just passed me by I did get a 2nd in STGT though

I'm running a set of RA1 scrubs that I bought from the Bimmerworld World Challenge team. $50 or $100 a tire depending on how many heat cycles they have on them. They're currently backordered but you can e-mail them and ask when they're going to "make more".

I've had pretty good luck with them on my 3650# GTO. Because of clearance to the strut, a 245 is the biggest tire I can put on the front. I have 3 track days on this set and I'm sure they've got another one in them though I probably should flip them on the wheels to put the good edge on the outside.
