NHIS 1

Post by offcamber09 » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:45 am

I see on the NHIS website that a carting event was cancelled for this weekend. Any local yocals want to give us a snow report from the area from last night?

Thanks

A good 9 inches and we are still getting light flurries.

The real problem is the high temp the next couple of days is predicted to only be only 38 - 40 degrees.

Will NHIS run the event if there's snow on the runoff areas?

Can I use studs in my snow tires or have to use just plain snow tires ?

Was the track clear before the snow last night ?

When I asked Nate yesterday about studs and/or chains he told me to check the rule book.

Yes - the track was clear prior to yesterday.

If the event were to be cancelled (knock on wood) any ideas when we would find out?

Having lived in the area for more years than I care to say, I am sure the track will be clear come Sunday PM. this stuff is melting fast because the ground is now warm enough to promote melting. 39 deg and melting fast here in Merrimack.
That's not to say there might not be a couple of mud puddles for you-know-who to play in!

I heard he's also getting a lawn mower fitted to the front spoiler. He should come and see me .. I've been a John Deere dealer for over 30 years and may even have a used bagger for his rear spoiler :fart:

While i am always glad to attend events, have a feeling it will not be safe to drive on the track. Conditions where i live, which is just south of Louden, is still experiencing snow flurries and light accumulation.

Add to the fact, while NHIS has virtually no run off area in many parts, whatever runoff areas that ARE present would probably be treacherous and either snowbound or mud season-like in nature. Add to that(!) the track is very green from lack of use over the winter and cold tarmac only adds to the lackluster tire grip situation.

JUST CALLED NHIS and spoke with Linda, they are not sure and will know tomorrow around 3pm. Looks like a no-go imho and, frankly, i feel that may be a wise decision. Also keep in mind more snow seems to be in the forcast over the weekend.

Apr 06Scattered Flurries

Saturday Apr 07Flurries

Sunday Apr 08Scattered Flurries

Monday Apr 09Scattered Flurries

Tuesday Apr 10Flurries

If COMSCC actually runs the event, i MIGHT be temped to go but will bring tintop with Blazzak WS-50 rubber.
Enjoy the Track,

accuweather looks better. partly to mostly cloudy and ~42 deg from fri on, decent melting weather. I can feel some optimism comin on. I'm just going to believe whatever weather report has the best news.

Even if it doesnt all melt driving on a snowy track would be a blast. COM's first rallycross! I bet we would dry the track off pretty quick.

Last year's NHIS1 had a temp of 38 F and was on a green track. Traction was not that bad and we had no major incidents. It turned out to be a fun event. A freind of mine is using my Miata, if the track conditions are real bad I'll just use the Miata in stead of my Mustang. After all the Miatas are just throw-a-way cars- not a classic like a Mustang :P

According to Alex, we are to be officially notified by NHIS tomorrow (Friday).
All indications at this point is that the track will be ready for us.

The Mustang group has decided not to bring beer and hotdogs, but we will be bringing HOT COCO and HOT SOUP

I also found some special screws you screw into ATV tires for traction on ice, I might use them on my car./
