Does the Elise factory Roll bar satisfy tech?
I have a customer at FasTrack that just joined COM and plans to sign up today for the April event as a student. He has a Lotus Elise and I am trying to find out for him, prior to him showing up at the event if the stock roll bar will satisfy Tech. The long discusion in the other Elise Rollbar post did not have a definitive response to the posted question. Thanks

I'm certainly not in a position to answer this with any authority whatsoever, but...
It seems to me the Elise shouldn't need a roll bar, just like '84+ Corvettes, 914s, 911 targas, first-gen Viper roadsters, or any other removable roof panel car don't need them.

Thanks, Dan. Anyone else? I've got any itchy new member raring to go if his car doesn't need a bar.
btw if my previous post doesn't read like my normal posts (ie. making farting sounds with my hand in armpit while I type) that's because Jamie used my ID to post- identity theft is a very real problem! [-X

Got any pictures of what the Elise's frame looks like?
The C5 Corvette's looks exactly like a roll bar:

Amen, those Loti seems to go fast and handle great, though in-wall experiences seem to really break them apart easilyDon P wrote:That tub/frame with wheels, motor, interior added looks just like the one I saw @ WGI last year after it hit the armco between T10 & T11....
Scott tell your customer to "cinch em up tight"....
In fact, after seeing that WGI incident i scratched the Lotus OFF my list of cars to consider for next tintop (Porsche C still in the running). Well, that and the high $5k Lotus front clamshell (and i thought Ferrari parts were $$$!).

Hello Everyone,
I'm the new student with the Elise (#253 SSGT).
Technically I learned about COM from Lester Seal at Apex. I had Apex install a turbo kit, roll bar, and brake upgrades for my Miata.
But there is no way I could take my Miata on the track as the roll bar fits under the soft-top. I'd never get the clearance....so I delayed joining any club for a time.
So after upgrading my Miata (Love it!) the only ~reasonable~ thing to do was to buy the Elise, so I can take a stock car to school on the track.
Then I ran into Fastrack and learned about NHIS1, and thats all it took to sign me up in a heartbeat.
Now all I need to do is to pass tech with my helemt and car!
