Got Hoosiers?

Post by brucesallen » Thu Mar 15, 2007 1:09 pm

I run Hoosier slicks on my Formula SCCA. I usually get them from Hoosier at the track at SCCA races. No shipping charges. They mount and balance.
I might be able to get Hoosier Tire East to show up with their rig to the April COM event at NHIS. Would anyone be interested? You would be able to order tires you need ahead of time or take your chances with the good sized inventory they bring with them.

I'm guessing the discount discontinued tires are not eligible for this.

$179ea. from Tire Rack. Shipping will be less than $10 ea. Mounting and balancing is $9.95 ea. at FasTrack for our COM members. No disposal fee.

Saw a plasma cutter and TIG welder in their shop, plus an assortment of various sized hammers. Should not be a problem

No problem Gary. Other than a slow start to next week (I'm away at a funeral) we'll being going 6 days a week to help any way we can. I've got 3 COM cars scheduled for alignment and cross/corner weighting.

After the picture I saw of Bruce's car- it looks like he needs the welder and big hammers.

Hoosier to be at NHIS both days!!

Post by brucesallen » Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:16 am

OK, it is a done deal. The COM Board last night enthusiastically welcomed Robert Smart of Hoosier Northeast Racing (518) 622-0329 racesmart@aol.com to bring his rig and tires from Saugerties, NY to the April 9 and 10 NHIS COM event. Robert will arrive Sunday night and if he can't get in then he will sleep outside the gate and set up early Monday. He will stay Monday and Tuesday and he will have a garage in the paddock.

You should call or email Robert with your order ahead of time. He may bring some popular DOT race tire sizes on speculation, but to be sure, order ahead. Check the main Hoosier site www.hoosiertire.com to see the full line. Get consultation help from the corporate guys or Robert. Robert has been an SCCA racer for years in many cars including Miata, BMW and F500.

There will be no shipping charges and obviously no sales tax and Robert and his crew perform competent mounting and balancing. In my case, with non-DOT slicks he uses stick-on weights.

Excellent! If i had know, would have only ordered one set of 35's a few weeks back.

QUESTION: how many heat cycles/events do you feel i could get out of a set of 25's? Sure i know it is track dependant and other factors, but a general ballpark??? Maybe use the 25's only forCOMSCC time trials and for SCCA qualification??? Really appreciate your thoughts my friend as have four sets of rims to play with.

I only guess that 25s are good for a day. But I don't have experience as in my Club Formula Ford days the class speced 60/600 compound and with the Formula SCCA spec Formula car I must use a spec Hoosier 45A compound. I have found that with the 45 and 60 compounds I could get well over 20 heat cycles and basically never wear out but the first 4 were the best with the grip falling off by 1 second a lap and then staying there forever. Of course, 45 and 60 compounds never have much grip in the cold.
