Every time I go away I saddle my wife with having to take care of our daughter solo.

Of course, you could always bring them along, and turn it into a mini-vacation. Or do what I did 5 years ago: get your wife involved in the sport. Then you'll get as many tracks days as you can stand/afford, wherever your want!

Hmm, don't know how practical it would be having a 8 month old at a track day. I've taken my wife autocrossing before and she had a good time, but driving the course at speed was too much excitement for her. I don't think she'd enjoy a track day.
