coilover question

Post by cuda6666 » Mon Jan 15, 2007 3:56 pm

Need some advice. I just bought a set of coilovers with about 2000 street miles on them. The fronts have pillow ball upper mounts and one of them shows some up and down slack-just enough to see and feel when I pull up and down on it. The other one is tight and moves only as allowed around the ball in the mount. Does the loose pillow ball mount need to be replaced, or does the weight of the car hold the upper mount in place?

Thanks

It will need to be replaced if it has any play. It will clunk over every bump. FYI, pillow balls don't last very long during street use, but I guess you could have figured that out considering the previous owner only got 2000 miles out of them.

Thanks. I don't need more clunking. I'm already putting up with a racket from the spherical enlink bearings on my rear sway bar. I just wasn't sure that the pillow ball play (apprx. 10 thousandths) would matter if the car's weight was always on it.
