How about a day in the middle of the winter and we'll close down Boston F-1 and spend the day racing karts????
I have paddle shift GT racing games, Grand Prix and the like, unless you have a car like Greg Read with management system, these "tweaks" are not realistic (in computer games). So best is to test in a kart. Boston F-1 has the solution - for those who live near Boston that is...
We can join Corporate Challenge races, or just rent the track for a day. That will guarantee to take any "rust" from your joints in the middle of winter...

Linked-track endurance races at F1 are the best! I'm sure F1 still holds them from time to time. F1 will link the two tracks for these events, and they are a blast. Longest I've been involved with is a 6-hour, which gives plenty of driving for a 3-4 man team. Price was about $180 per team member, if I recall correctly.
If there were enough people interested, we could actually host it privately as a COM event. F1 can serve food and will hold a trophy presentation at the end.
Cost-wise, arrive & drive on the single tracks would be cheaper, but from a seat time per dollar spent standpoint, the enduro is significantly better, and way more fun.

OK Mr. Registar, the Miane Kart place sounds nice. I used to race karts at Beechridge...
Wanna organize an event there in the middle of winter? Say President's day in February? We'll take the place for the day and have challenge races with heats, etc. Categories go by weight (so you don't have to race with Gordon and Will but you will be stuck with me again...).

Yup, tha'ts a sim cockpit, with a Logitech Momo wheel and pedals, not in the picture is a 26" Widescreen HDTV. Currently considering a 3 19" LCD Monitor setup, and the Logitech G25 wheel and pedals.
I started sim racing 5+ years ago when I stumbled on to Alison Hine's GPL page, Sim racing lead to AutoXing, which lead me to Time trialing.
I prefer LiveforSpeed, it can be downloaded herehttp://www.liveforspeed.net unfortunately it's all fantasy tracks, but the physics are right on.
I have also turned laps in GPL, NASCAR 2003 (and many modded varitions), rFactor, GTR, GTL, GTR2, and awaiting the arrival of iRacing.
Well I think I have demonstrated who is the biggest dork...

Amen, amazing SIM. A few Fcar guys were telling me i should get one(!). You see, Xbox and the like bore me in very short order anmd we were debating SIM games. The cost of a setup like the above video is $15k+ i believe.Dave_G wrote:Yup, this guy:

Right, and 15K buys a prepped Miata and covers expenses for a couple of years.
And, it STILL doesn't give the same, er, thrill? of successfully sliding around a wet Mosport, or trail braking into 10 at Tremblant then throttle steering through 11 and cranking left before you see the turn in under the bridge for 12. Oh, did I forget the pedal to the metal through 1, up over 2 and down into 3? Yee haw!!
Heck, 15K will by a little time at F1, doncha think? And there you have to learn to deal with the young teens who can really whip butt!
