Probably the Legacy GT.

Was this on Sunday? We had a blue Impreza coupe. Looked like a 2000 vintage or so. Driver had done a complete "JDM" STi engine & other STi goody swap.

Well Dan, thanks for at least coming out and saying you don't think we're cheating. I was honestly starting to wonder ;)
DanDarcy wrote: I would like a chance at winning ST1 next year also, so I can be like Ryan and do two in a row  With the STis moving down this would be impossible.
Wait, so you should win your class just because you want to? Thats a novel concept!

It's not impossible, just drive faster. I will attest that your car has plenty of power, having followed you down the straight waiting for a point-by once or twice. You got quicker since last year, just give it a little more time. If you'd like, I'm happy to go out with you next season for a ridealong or two and see if I can come up with any pointers to help you get faster. I'm a nice guy like that! Just ask Raj about the line I showed him in the left hander...

Did ryanc just cut and paste his times VS jeff's times?! lol

Guys - please stop giving out info about STi/Evo goodness. These cars are sooo much fun!

The funny bit is this... boost and ecus and st1 gt pg qb Most of us run RA1s 97% of the time. Raj, Ryan, Joe, Keith, Pete, etc know the real time isn't hidden in the ecu.

They cost $200+each and come from TireRack. HOOOOSIERS. Not really the point of the discussion, but still. If you make a rule you can't police, you create silly arguments.

Seriously now , I was running behind a Subie at Line Rock (not a WRX or STi not sure exactly what it was ) and when the driver let off the gas, flames would shoot out both exhaust pipes. Is this common with stock boost ? The car was in ST1 and it had a pipe on either side of the car.
I'm running a cat with a tuned ECU. Hope I wasn't getting in anyone's way on Sunday. I had a severely warped front brake rotor.

Hi Guys --sorry for the delay in posting today-- I had to actually work today. :!:

Ryan thanks for the offer to help my driving ! My wife is always giving me helpful hints on driving when ever I drive with her . Also thanks for noticing that my lap times are lower this year than last but I don't think thats from an improvement in driver skill. Last year I ran plain old street tires and a posi unit that did'nt work. This year I put on R type tires and a new Richmond posi unit. (I can now go up turn 4 at NHIS and put my foot on the gas pedal a little). I don't know if the car has any more speed in it the way it is set up. Right now going into turn 6 at NHIS I can put on the brakes and fell the chassis twist into the corner (don't even have to turn the steering wheel). the back axle in the Mustang with stock bushings like mine can slide sidways up to 2", once you have "twisted" the chassis you floor the gas pedal and hang on as the car will make the rest of the corner by it self. (kind of like auto pilot).
Also at NHIS when the radar is set up at the beginning of the straight , I will be following one of those Subies -- their speed will be less than mine but as soon as they hit the straight -- they leave me in the dust ! all 300 h.p. autos are not created equal
If I drive again next year I will take you up on your offer Ryan, I always listen to what people have to say and like to be critiqued.

Cuda 6666-- I'm glad your are ST1 legal :) but I need to replaced the burnt paint on the front of my car  . You drive that big sedan real well, I can't believe how fast you are . Don't worry about your brakes at LRP, I only use brakes twice a lap there. Once for Big Bend and once for the "Left Hander". (thats if I'm driving hard) and I looking into the "Flame Thrower"

Thanks for the compliment. What do you mean "If I drive again next year." I was looking forward to playing some more after I get my headers and underdrive pulleys

Then again, I'll be in ST2

Am I correct in saying the Legacy GT with about $1200 in factory "mods" (STi down pipe, etc) pumps out 300 hp and becomes an STi in disguise? 8) I believe those were the words of an anonymous COM ex-pres up at Mt Tremblant. What will they think of next? :o

Out-of-the-box Showroom Stock (SS) vs Street Tuner (ST)

Post by boltonite » Thu Dec 14, 2006 8:18 am

Historically, I believe the E30 M3 has gone straight to ST2 for the reasons Jeff and others have stated: these cars were designed from the factory for the track. I think doing so resulted in a more even playing field.

Reviewing track records for SSGT vs STi (STGT) times this year, it appears that multiple STi's ran under SSGT track records at every track.

Realistically you can't put a bone stock car in SP but I see no reason not to continue to put specific bone stock cars in ST. I understand the desire to even-out the class field and to avoid classing stock cars in ST, but there is a precedence for doing so. If I was thinking of joining the club to compete in time trials and I drove, say, a stock 350Z, I would be rethinking my plans for a new trophy case.

Someone (who cares) ought to submit a proposal to deal w/ both the STi and Z06, if those cars are viewed as misfits in the new car classifications.

Seriously, thats what my car is. Its a C5 coupe with Z06 swaybars, Z06 endlinks, Z06 wheels, Z06 shocks, Z06 exhaust and Z06 intake so I classed the car STGT even though I'm using parts from an SSU car. Unless you REALLY know C5 vettes, you'd never know it wasn't stock.

George, the way our rules read, it doesn't matter what car or class those parts came from; since there isn't an update/backdate rule, swaybars and the intake are not legal SS mods. You properly classed your car, but the relevance of what car the parts originally came from shouldn't have any bearing on what class you wind up in after having installed them. Even though they came from a Corvette that runs in an SS class... logical, right? heheh

Out of curiousity, how does the intake from the Z06 differ from the stock C5 intake? Bigger airfilter or straighter path? Does it make much power? I don't have any upgraded intake to put on the car short of a short-ram style setup, and those screw with my MAF sensor, so i'm still running the stocker.

The LS6 intake makes a little more power, maybe 5-10. Its actually standard equipment on the later model LS1's.
It doesn't matter, I'm doing some other crap to my car so its going to be SPA anyway.

Hes refering to the intake manifold, not the intake piping before the throttle body. The LS6 has longer runners and more volume in the plenum. You can't see any difference in the two until you remove it and look at the bottom or remove the throttle body. The LSx manifold is a pretty nice peice with a very cool design. The plenum is a log style that is wrapped by the runners.
