Hope this isn't too far off topic for our forum. I went to mount my snow tires last weekend, and noticed that one of them was flat. When I pumped it up, I could hear air leaking out about as fast as I was putting it in. Not good. I found the source -- a 1/8" slit directly in the sidewall.
Now I know you can't plug a sidewall like you can a tread. But a Jeep/off-roader buddy of mine says they patch (from the inside) off-road tires all the time, because they frequently get "snake-bite" from the sides of rough rocks.
My question is this: is is safe (possible?) to patch the inside of a high-speed street tire? I'd really hate to have to buy two new snows right now.
Thanks in advance,
Michael Carr

Smart move, I would have done the same!BrakeL8r wrote:Thanks Jeffrey, but I need 205x55x16. Based on the first reply, I went ahead and ordered a pair of Dunlop M3 from TireRack.
Thanks,

I have run Dunlop WinterSport M2 (now M3) tires on several vehicles. Very good snow tire, and EXCELLENT cold-weather dry conditions tire as well. A "sporty" snow tire!

Thanks Scott. After hearing the earlier responses, I checked with my off-roader budy who has said they do it all the time, and he said they patch the inside of the tire with a big piece of rubber, but are then required to use an inner tube in the tire (think bike tire). He then stressed this is for off-road low-speed use only, and that these vehicles are usually Jeeps, and are towed to their events.
Thanks
