Awards banquet info?

Post by grovefromnh » Wed Nov 29, 2006 5:16 am

How about some info so we can make plans. Or is the club going to wait until the last moment as usual and then wonder why few members attend.

All in favor?

The banquet was mentioned at the November board meeting. I do not remember the date off the top of my head, but I agree with Grove's point.

We should get this info out to the membership ASAP. :)

I assume there will be a pre-banquet party in a suite showing race videos etc.

Registration and schedule for the Banquet have been up on the web
site for about a week now - registrations are trickling in, so come
on down and join the party.

Why not email an announcement/invitation for those who do not visit the web site on a regular basis?

Maybe if someone removed the filthy crap showing up here, those people would visit the web site more often. Give me the tools (permissions) and I'd do it.

Are you talking about Raj's posts? They aren't all filthy. ;)

I'm working on upgrading the security of the forum. First step was to wipe out all of the spammer accounts - which has been done.

Next step is to implement upgrades to the registration process which make it more difficult (or virtually impossible) for spam-bots to register and post. This step is coming along and will be completed soon.

The trick isn't having the time or the tools - it is selecting the right tools, testing them, and then implementing them properly. I picked the upgrades a few weeks ago and have tested it on other forums with great success.

Since there are no product manuals or support services for the forum software, we are very careful and selective with the features we add. Last thing I want is to have the forum irreparably damaged during an "upgrade"!

FYI - these posts are created by spam-bots. A spam-bot is a program designed to seek out forums (like this one) and create posts which link to pay-type sites. These sites usually include adult material, drug offers, Russian brides, and every other topic we all get spam emails from. Since there is no real person that actually visits the site, registers, and creates these posts, these solicitations are very common and difficult to stop. In the mean time, we've been picking off the spam posts as quickly as we find them. Most are taken down very quickly, as are spam-bot accounts.

Thanks for your patience and concern!

Cheers,

Will
