Upgraded myself back into COM :)
Well, since i had a thread on this section about upgrading OUT of... here is a new one as i upgraded myself back into COM. Look forward to seeing everyone in 2007 and please with sugar on top and a cherry Bruce A. be kind to me. Your years of experience will be much appreciated.
Here are the details of the new (to me) car:
RF99 ex-Richard Morgan USF2000 pro car (Formula Continental) with one of the best Elite Pro motors in the country (6 races since rebuild, we did leakdown/compression and it was very good). The car took pole for the one and only race it did this year (VIR pro races, it came in second place for that race). According to the SCCA timing/scoring and other data, the car does 1:54 at WGI, 1:28 at Mosport (long), and 1:05 at NHIS (not sure which config, i am guessing South oval). No data for LRP as the owner did not seem to run there.
For years the car was always serviced/stored at GTP Motorsports, who is the US importer of the VD. Car came with Penske 8700 triple adjustable shocks with ICP hydraulic perches (serviced by Stimola in 2005 and has dyno sheets. 8700 bodies with 8760 innards) and upgraded motor mounts. Various Pennon aero bits, both normal and high downforce aero packages included. Pi System 2 data acquisition with all major sensors, beacon, beacon battery and a Dell laptop with PI Windows software and data logs. The car is wired for a radio (IMSA connector).
Shameless plug: Someone please buy my Featherlite open trailer as i need an enclosed trailer for 2007. Am getting lots of inquires from various track guys on other boards, but would like to see a COMer with it as she has been very good to me.

Yes... yes it is. The plan for 2007 is to LEARN the car and setup skills. She has a 2L carbed engine massively tweaked yet to SCCA rules legal that puts out very good HP/TQ in a package that will weight 1150 wet with me in it. Think 0 to 60 in around 3.8 seconds and stopping power of 60 to 0 in 100 feet... pulls around 2Gs in the twisties (dependant on setup/aero).turtlevette wrote:I did a search to see what that car looks like. That's a whole lot of car. WOW.
That red car you guys know of was gathering snow in my driveway this morning. Pool old soul, though will find time for her at some point. Am going to get a 20-foot enclosed trailer to haul the FC and various bits/spares/tools/Intercomp scales/etc. to track events.

Thanks and my apologies, though it was time to take off the training wheels as it were. The Ferrari is a great car for something designed over three decades ago. It amazes me how competitive she is to naturally aspirated modern day cars of nearly the same power/weight. She does 1:06 laps at LRP and 2:24 at WGI (and best NHIS double CC config was 1:26). Reliability has been extremely good, though that is a function of how she has been prepped and maintained. She is still here and will make various track appearances, though guess it was time to move on to something that provided more safety, capability, etc. The past two years (over 40 track days) with the Ferrari has been a good learning experience in many ways.dinoracer wrote:Congrats on the new car Steven, but I'll miss the Ferrari...

Paddy,
For 2007 spring/summer/fall just time trials and also other gentleman track days with various clubs, then we'll do a rebuild in the winter of 2007. Want to get to know the car's capabilities, various track setups, tweaks, etc analyzing the data along the way BEFORE taking on wheel to wheel racing. Yes, the car is EXTREMELY competitive for wheel to wheel, but first want to be sure the nut behind the wheel (me) is of proper specifications and tightened with the correct ft/lb of torque. Believe me, i have plans for the car and it includes MANY track events for years to come... until i get bored of it and move on to others cars (bored with the Ferrari, so enter the FC, which in turn may be replaced by ??? in a few years).
The good news is that the FC can easily be brought up to the new 2007 specifications (and i assume 2008 as the new spec just came out recently). But yes, agree the car is very much ready for wheel to wheel, but is the guy behind the wheel ready? It may be best IMO to take a year to get to know her. Well, at least it should be better than driving my old saloon car.
