Route to VIR

I have been using RV Trip Wizard for trip planning and turn by turn directions. You can plug in your hauler and trailer details and the website will give you RV (or car trailer) friendly directions.

I used this when I picked up my RV and Trailer from Virginia earlier this year. Helps planning fuel stops as well - you can plug in your fuel capacity and average mileage to calculate your range and plan out each stop. I find the satellite overlay is useful to make sure there is no issue getting into and out of a gas station (granted I use truck stops to avoid issues).

Costs $40 a year, but you can log in and sample it before you purchase. The turn by turn directions are located in the RV Life app. Another benefit is the app locally cashed offline maps for the full area of your trip.

I've done the trip many times with a couple of different trucks.

Part of the route is optimized for an overnight stay in Winchester, VA where there's a Courtyard near the Medical Center that has good trailer parking.

1) Get to 81 in PA/VA. My suggestion is 84 in CT to PA. At Scranton, pick up 81.
2) Take 81 south to Roanoke
3) At Roanoke, take 581 to 220 and then 58 to 62.

Given what the Cannonball Run folks have been able to do with lighter traffic these days, something that involves 95 down to Richmond and then 360 to VIR might not be terrible. I've gone that way once and it's great roads. Just hope you don't get stuck in DC traffic. Or NYC traffic. Or PHL traffic.

Wow. Thanks for all the great responses. It's going to be a difficult choice.
FWIW - I'll be towing a 24ft enclosed trailer with a 3/4 ton pickup. So, nothing too crazy.
