Watkins Glen info Sept 9-10 2019
Good afternoon
Here is the advance information for our event at Watkins Glen this year.
- There will be NO ENTRY to the track on Sunday night for anyone. This is a hard rule. It applies to EVERYONE. Including Dan Darcy. There is a Vintage Racing event and they have the track until 8 PM Sunday night. They will not let you in after 8 PM, don't ask. Sorry. Gate opens on Monday at 6:00AM. Camping is allowed on site Monday night. IF you feel you cannot attend without staying on property Sunday night, you will need to book yourself a campsite inside and buy a ticket for the vintage event, then you can stay where you are Sunday night. Go to theglen.com website to purchase Hilliard-United-States-Vintage-Grand-Prix.aspx. A bunch of the COM crew did this last year and had a blast.
- A GUEST LIST (for family, crew members, etc.) must be provided to the track ONLY by our registrar 3 days before we arrive. Please contact the registrar (Mark Swinehart at comregistrar@comcast.net) and provide him the names of EVERYONE in your party. If you have NOT notified Mark of those attending, they will not be allowed entry. You MUST get that list to the registrar no later than 9/5/18.
- We WILL be allowed to drop off trailers (car trailers, tire trailers whatever) on Sunday in the lot at the top of the hill. As you are coming up Rte. 16 from town, DO NOT enter at the first gate you see (gate 2), or the second (gate 3); keep going to the top of hill to what’s actually gate 4a, where the main ticket/will call office and registration building is. I highly recommend you check personally with the staff at the registration office when you arrive, they may direct you to “lot 3”, or the lot behind this building, or to the lot across the street in the field. This is really at the security staff’s discretion. IN either case, they have full time security roaming around, you can feel safe leaving your truck and trailer where they tell you.
- To allow ample time for check-in and registration on Monday morning, members will be allowed to enter the facility at 6:00AM, using Gate 2 (the first one you see coming up the hill from town). Once past the gate, drive up the road and enter the track using the east tunnel on your right. Inside the track perimeter, proceed to the South Paddock garage area (check the track map here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6c/fe/53 ... 96088f.jpg
- There are limited garages available at this moment, email Scott at scott.rosnick@gmail.com . DO NOT occupy any garage other than the one the garage master Scott Rosnick has given you. If there is someone in your garage spot, do not panic, find Scott on garage 4 and we'll work it out. If you have not booked a garage, please do not occupy the parking spaces directly in front of them. Leave room for the haulers.
- Traffic flow around the garages is counter clockwise. The speed is VERY SLOW.
- The COM Sports Car Club registration area will be located in the Main Garage, and will open from 7:00 to 8:00AM on Monday and Tuesday.
- Tech will be open from 7:05 to 8:05. Tech line starts at garage 30 and winds its way back around the building counter-clockwise. Please show up in line with your car ready to be teched- bring your registration sheet, helmet, (and drivers suit if super class), car numbers in place
- The gas pumps will be open with 93, 101 and 112 octane fuel available. Hours are 8:00AM to 11:30AM and 12:00 PM to 3:30PM, there will be a track employee there to assist you.
- The restaurant in the media center will be open both days for the usual sandwiches at a fee.
- There is no formal or informal dinner activity planned for Sunday or Monday nights. If you wander down into the town, you will certainly find other COM members to hang with. There are a bunch of good places to eat and drink there. There is also the restaurant and “world famous” bar at the Seneca lodge near the track.
- Pets must be leashed, and please watch for children. The paddock is a very busy place, so please be aware of your surroundings while walking or driving through.
- As with all the other tracks, unmanned aerial systems (drones) are not allowed to operate on the property at any time.
- If you damage the track, you will be getting a bill from the track management, usually with an hour of the incident. So don’t damage the track please.
Any questions post them on the app or forum or both please
Thanks Tom Cannon

Questions for clarification sake please:

* OK to drop of at ANYTIME Sunday at these locations?
* Will these locations also be opened Monday 6AM?

Re: Watkins Glen info Sept 9-10 2019
The ticket office opens at 8AM Sunday. They have listed the closing time as TBD. I expect that means that by noon or so no one else is coming to the window to buy a $ 55 ticket, so they close the windows and go home.
I have asked these very detailed questions to the Manager at the track, I hope to have an answer Thursday.
There is no event booked for the day after us, so we MIGHT be able to cam in the paddock Tuesday night. Waiting for confirmation.

Re: Watkins Glen info Sept 9-10 2019
Update
There is no overnight security inside the track for Tuesday night. Therefore, we cannot camp in the paddock overnight Tuesday sorry.
"Anytime on Sunday" is what I'm told. I take this to mean that the gate into lot 3 will be open all day. If you arrive, and it is not, please go to the office at gate 2 , it is staffed 24 hours, and ask for them to help you to get someone there to open it for you. We have access to the lot as part of our contract, but that doesn't mean the word gets to the security people who actually need to know this. If you arrive before dawn, or after dark, it might be closed.
The gate into Lot 3 should be open at 6 AM Monday, so you can get your trailer and bring it out of lot 3 through gate 3 and over to gate 2 so you can come into the tack infield and paddock. If it is not, don't panic, please go to the office at gate 2 , it is staffed 24 hours, and ask for them to help you to get someone there to open it for you.
In the past, we were directed to park trailers behind the ticket office or across the street from it. You might be told to park there when you arrive Saturday or Sunday, and not lot 3. Don't get your panties in a bunch, just roll with it. Remember you're in the sticks, where things are a bit laid back.

Will they be charging for electricity in paddock monday and Tuesday? They have charged $50 each some times in the past.

Can we drop trailers off at anytime, like today?

You should be able to. The lot is generally unlocked/open. If not, go to the main entrance and ask for help.
