New Engine....one more time!
New Engine....one more time!
My luck with engines hasn't been too good this year. I sieze my engine on the open track day in April. Then I rebuilt the entire engine from the bottom up (literally). It was completed three weeks prior to Tremblant. Attended the Tremblant event, and to make a long story short, ended up driving all the way up there and was able to drive my car for a whaloping 22 minutes. Had major problems. The end result was that the waterpump drive gear self destructed, and chewed all of the teeth off of both gears. All this nice hardened steel then proceeded its way through the oil pump, main bearing, rod bearing, crank, etc, etc..... So I ended up rebuilding the engine yet again, and it is about 99% complete at this point. I am hoping to have it complete by next Monday. If all goes well I will see you all at the event in NHIS on the 21st. With me luck....I apparently need it!

New engine prep
Hopefully you have installed a fully baffled oilpan. Stock GM pans are worthless on a track. I ran a 79 Camaro w/600hp. NO engine problems because I used a good race oilpan. Good Luck! Grove Marcy
Best of luck Joel.

Yes I got one of the Road race pans from Canton. I also bought an Accusump, but decided against installing it at this time. I couldn't find a good way to route the oil line and it was way too close to the headers for my liking. I think that the oil pan itself will most likely take care of 99% of the potential problems.......I hope!!

oil pan
Good oilpan. The stock pan has NO baffles so oil slides uo the side of the block away from the pickup when cornering. Anyone running a GM product should get a race pan. Regards, Grove
Yes, I feel your pain. Good luck Joel, except that I wish I had gone through only two motors this year. Its been four engines for me so far, with the most recent failure happening last weekend in my driveway of all places.
The rotary gods are not being good to me. Those uppy-downy kind of motors are starting to look pretty good.

rotary madness
Carl you may want to check with the previous poster in regards to your last rotary blowup- although I don't think he's seen that car for 10 years except briefly in my driveway.

VROOOOOMMMM....VROOOMMMMMM....
Well started the engine up for the first time (yet again) yesterday. For the most part, everything seems to be working out fine. Have a couple of small details to work out, but seems like all should be working okay for the October event at NHIS! So unless something bad happens between now and then, I will see you all there!
