Ed Givler

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that long time COM member, Ed Givler, passed away last night. Ed's membership with COM dates back to the 60"s. He was also a long-time SCCA racer- racing CSR, FSV, ITB and FP. Ed was my racing inspiration, coach and role model. He was a fantastic instructor due to his patience, engineering background and racing experience. His quiet demeanor hid a strong competitiveness. He set the COM NHIS south oval lap record (1:08), that held for several years, in his Formula Super Vee. Bruce Allen eventually bested Ed's time, and in a true act of sportsmanship- Ed presented Bruce a t-shirt with a picture of his (Ed's) car at the trophy presentation.
Always one to think of others before himself, Ed was featured in a Boston Globe article about evaluating older driver's for keeping their drivers licenses. Here is a link to the article- it is a great read: http://archive.boston.com/news/local/ma ... _of_tests/
I will miss him.
-Scott

Ed was my second ever instructor back in 1999. Scott is right, he was super patient, and was able to explain aspects of driving in a manner that appealed to my view of the world. Sorry to see him go.
RIP Ed.
