HMS has a decent selection in their showroom. I'd give them a call. (978)774-1615 in Danvers

So where did you end up going for your seat?

I am ware this is not useful for the next six months but walking around the paddock of one of our events is probably the best seat showroom you will find. I agree with Rebecca that most of the seats at HMS are too bulky (and comfy!) to fit in many Miatas. You are better off talking to someone who has already figured out what does and doesnt fit in an NC. Paging Troy, Gordon and Will...

There is a bit more room in the NC than the earlier cars for the width of the seat. Almost any aluminum race seat should fit without issue, I have the Ultrashield Road Race seat currently. I did have a set of Corbeau fiberglass seats in my old car that fit. The trouble spot was the shoulder wings to the top of the door. My driver seat just touched when the door was shut. I changed to the aluminum seat because the Corbeau seat didn't give me the lateral support I wanted.

The best place to try out seats is at the track. I mean there are all kinds of cars and all kinds of seats in various sizes. I sat in a bunch of cars like mine until i found one that i like and then mail ordered it. I ended up getting a custom build Ultra Shield halo seat and i really like it. Having a seat that fits is much better.

in our NC MX-5 cup car we have a Sparco PROAVD carbon HALO.
they do fit the NC cars just fine. the NC's have much more room then my NA's and NB does so you have more seats to pick from.
i do have two ultrashield seats one halo on none halo they too will fit in the NC's.
as for you fitting into a seat that is very easy in a number of ways.
1st measure your self to see what size seat you need. from there you can buy padding and bolsters to fit you better in any seat.
all good seat manufactures have seat bolsters and padding in many different sizes.
for a few of our cars i used the BSCI seat insert kits and molded every seat to fit the wife and i.
doing them is in most cases the best option as you will never get a better fitting seat then a insert that is molded to your body.
the 2nd plus is safety nothing is better then a seat that cradles you in the seat.
for the cost to buying all the needed padding to get you to fit good in a seat you can spend the same money on a insert kit and it will fit you perfectly.

i personally like the BSCI kits they offer them in a number of sizes so you don't have to spend money on more product then you need.

I bought my Cobra Imolas used from a guy who had them in an NC. They fit in my NA pretty well. Had to hammer the tunnel a bit, and the wing hits the door card, but it closes just fine. I'm 5'7" and 177lbs and I fit "snugly." Race seats are the best workout motivator :D
