Palmer I did high 1:52s on a 225 width R17 NTO1.
The same car on 215 width R17 RE71R did 1:54s, 2 seconds slower and wore pretty fast for 1 event. They also lost grip / overheated after 1/2 session.
If you want a better tire that will last much longer and not drop off in grip pretty much at all go NT01. In perfect world do an RE71R (or equivalent) on your car for street use / rain backup.

Re: First track tires
Since you have a hatchback, you should be able to carry at least two sets of tires. In fact, can you carry a set for me? I say go Conti DWS for DD and to the track, and NT01 for on the track. Then carry a set of Hoosiers for me.

As long as the Hoosiers will fit on my car as well as in my car!
Re: First track tires
so i'm thinking about coming back to COM, and re-learning the tire landscape. Are these still the go-to hot tires?

Re: First track tires
re71r are still great. I'd consider trying the newer rt660 now too. They're cheaper than basically everything else in the class (NT01, r888r, re71r, etc. Yes I know the first two are more track dedicated that don't overheat as well).
