OK so I am looking for some clarification on my recently changed project.
The project used to be a 1987 Audi 5000 turbo quattro
The project is now a 1990 Audi V8 Quattro.
I am unsure what teh base classification for this car is, I am thinking SSA? maybe SSGT.
From here the car will be pretty much built out as follows
1. Custom suspension including custom control arms, coilovers, arb's and camber / caster control.
2. Big Brakes (Porsche 996tt)
3. Cage - full chromoly cage
4. Fuel Cell.
5. exhaust etc.
6. 5spd 01E gearbox (not available in US, but was an option in Europe)
7. Aluminum flywheel and spec stage V clutch
8. Torsen front diff (plus torsen center and rear)
9. Interior basically gone
So this puts me into an SP class, and I am guessing SPB or SPA dependant on SS class.
Then the next complication is it will be twin turbo'd - what does this do to the clasasification. I believe it bumps me up one level in a class. If the car is SPA, where does it go from there. I believe supewrcharged M3's stay as SPA, would this hold true for this vehicle?
Cheer and hope you all can help me clarify this.

p.s. this car should in theory be ready for next season

If it is a 8 cylinder, that puts it pretty squarely in SPA. There's no class higher than SPA as long as you stay within the rules (i.e. no body modifications/fender flares and the like) and you retain essentially the stock dash, two seats, headlights, wipers, etc. Make sure the roll cage 'interferes' with the door/interior panels so there's no question as to the legality of their removal. Or just go PA where there are essentially no restrictions (other than safety). That's where the supercharged BMW is.
Sounds like fun.

Thanks Keith,
Thats kind of what I figured, just not sure how the 'bump one grade in class' thing works when I add 2 turbos, if I am already in SPA. Do I bump to PA?
I was also wondering about the Non SP classes, where would it be in ST? The reason I am saying this is that I might run it with the full interior Except for removals for the cage, and no turbos initially to dial in the chassis before I add HP.
If I were to do this though I would be running stand alone fuel injection and computer, I want to do this to test out the system and get baselines before I add the turbos. I believe this is not allowed in ST?
As you can probably tell I am trying to figure out what order to do things and how far to go.

Hey,
What's up Timmmy? Headed to Summit?
Anyhow, as long as you don't break any of the SP rules, you'll remain in SPA. As Keith said, there is none higher in SP than SPA.
Sounds like you have a bunch of custom stuff going on with the Audi.
The Street Prepared (SP) and Prepared (P) classes, in general, are divided up as follows
A - 8 cyl
B - 6 cyl
C - 4 cyl
Forced induction cars are moved up one class.
Here's a short list of requirements in SP. Fail to meet any of these, and you are off to PA! See the rulebook for other requirements.

- Firewall sheetmetal must be left as stock (no modifications allowed).
- Street running gear (lights, blinkers, wipers) must be retained.
- Silhouette of car must remain as delivered, which means no fender flares,etc.
- 100% stock frame & subframes
- DOT approved tires

In stock trim, a naturally aspirated V8 Audi would be classed as SSGT in 2007. Same car would move up to ST1, then SPA, then PA, depending on the level of prep
SSU -> STGT
SSGT -> ST1
SSA -> ST2
SSB -> ST3
SSC -> ST4
As mentioned above, SP and P classes are divided by cyl count. When the rulebook says that forced induction cars are moved up one class, it strictly applies to SP and P classes, and means that a turbo-ed SPC car would move to SPB, etc. A turboed SPA car would remain in SPA, as long as all of the other SP criteria is met. Otherwise, the car would then be classed as PA.
Stand alones are currently not allowed in ST. By the looks of it, the Audi will be classed in SP. May as well get all of the safety stuff done first. As they say, safety first!
Keep in mind that the SS and ST rule set specify what changes CAN be made in that class. In other words, if it does not expressly say you can make a modification, you cannot! The SP and P ruleset, on the otherhand specify what changes you CANNOT make.

Hey Will,
Good to hear from you Sorry I cant make it to Summit, I had my folks here for 3 weeks and just dropped them at Logan, so now I have lots of catching up to do al round my life.
Next and final 2 events for the year for me are both at NHIS in the same week, one with COM and the other with Audi.
So back to the thread I suppose.
I am 99.9% sure all will be good for SPA which is where I want the car to end up, I just wanted to make sure I wouldnt get bumped to PA as that would change my approach a little.
In reading the rule book (again and again) it looks like I can do everything I want / need to do, although i have a few questions..
1. It states Chassis and subframes must remain stock, and given teh explicit nature of teh rules I am unsure given what I have seen out there for standard race car prep. Does this preclude additions for strength / safety such as sea welding subframes and additions of gussets etc in teh body? Given teh audi is monocoque and has no real chassis....I intend to make some changes to the floorpan to give me better clearance for the exhaust, but this does not affect the formed in frame sort of rails. I also will be adding a new suspension mount bracket to the front subframe. nothing I am doing will preclude the use of stock suspension components.
I am sure the answer is unless specifically stated....
I also wanted to discuss the intention to build the car to hit SCCA ITE. (& be ready for school in April )
