Punkin Chunkin going on at NHMS at the same time
Punkin Chunkin going on at NHMS at the same time
Heads up. Lodging may be hard(er) to come by. Any idea if this changes the camping situation?

I don't believe it will change our situation at all. That event doesn't use any of the infield of the track.

You're not kidding. I think the Delaware event is shut down permanently.

I don't get it. Shouldn't it be Pumpkin Chucking?

"Pumpkin chucking, or for rhyming purposes Punkin Chunkin and Pumpkin Chunking, is the sport of hurling or 'chucking' a pumpkin solely by mechanical means for distance. The devices used include slingshots, catapults, centrifugals, trebuchets, and pneumatic cannons."

They will be utilizing the South Gate.
All COMSCC participants will have to use the Main Gate (the same entrance we always use).

Apologies for dumb questions but I've not been to NHMS before. I read in the posts for previous events there that we can camp at the track free of charge. Is that motorhome camping or is there a nice grassy spot I could pitch a tent?
Hotel-wise, I think I've heard folks talking about the Red Roof Inn; I think that property is now a Quality Inn? There are a couple of other places in Tilton, and a Bed & Breakfast in Canterbury. Anyone tried any of those? I'm trying to talk the wife into bringing our little guy up for the day, checking out the track and punkin chunkin, and maybe staying overnight. He's 7 months old so a tent isn't happening if they come.
Thanks for any insight you guys have. Too bad I can't make the Glen or Tamworth this season. Next year...

Re: Punkin Chunkin going on at NHMS at the same time
If you are bringing a 7 month old, who will be surely rolling and or crawling around the floor, I would recommend against the (not so)Quality Inn. It was decent when it was a 2 year old Red Roof, but I wouldn't let my kids crawl around on the floor there. There are a couple of Marriott properties in Concord that usually have decent rates (~$150ish) and are a lot cleaner/nicer. I used to burn points to stay, but the days of 8k points for a free night don't seem to appear to often, so it's out of pocket if my family comes up, or sleep in the trailer if I'm solo.

Correct, camping is allowed. There are paved and grassy spots for campers/motorhomes and tents alike. Motorhomes are closer to the paddock (north garages). I haven't done it myself, but the grassy area to the right as you enter through NHMS's tunnel (by T2 - T3), is a popular place to pitch a tent. I believe there is a bathroom nearby, and I think it has showers. The bathrooms in the paddock definitely have showers.
Hope this helps,
Will

I reserved a hotel room (because it could get down to the 20's as it has in the past). If the forecast turns out to be warm I will cancel and stay in my trailer. At this time of year the leaf peepers fill up the hotels (and pumpkin chuckers too).

I've tent camped in this spot, it is pretty good. Nice view of South Oval and the close by bathrooms do have showers.WillM wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 1:57 pmGraham -
