Where are the head lamps ? I assume its streetable like the Mustang or Sky
In New Hampshire, if you get farm plates, you only need lights if you drive at night. Also in NH, you could register it as a 1949 morgan and put street rod plates on it. Dan, wouldn't your motorcycle dealers be enough?

I can use my dealer plate on anything--- but I think that would only be asking for trouble :x Plus I get stopped enough as it is using the small motorcycle plate on large vehicles even though it is legal :roll:
I still think the best car would be a used Corvette Z06 , very fast, great handling (50/50 weight dist.) plus if you drive it conservatively you can average over 26 mpg. I use to get over 30 mpg on a back road trip like going up Rt. 202. The Z06 is just too fast for me, thats why I drive a Mustang now.

Just posting this makes me feel old. Would love an F1 car, but do you have any idea the costs to run and service them? i do and know two guys who own such beasts and lemme tell you, you NEED A CREW just to start the darn things.

Dont forget about the S2000. Only down side is you need a $1000 rollbar for COM. I drive my s2000 in the winter. I bought miy '02 used for $18,500 with 28K miles.

Get yourself a used Factory Five Cobra. 2300 pounds. You can pick one up used in the mid $20's pretty easily. You get your Mustang running gear but the weight is less than a sky (pretty near a miata). Ask any of the FFR guys at the track. Parts are cheap and understressed. Great aftermarket both from the Mustang side and specifically for Factory Fives. The kits are manufactured in Wareham, MA. Forum at www.ffrcobra.com You could also build one as you want it and go the spec racer route. Ask Gary Cheney or Henry Renaud about them. Between the two of them, they seem to spit out one a week. :D

I've got one in my garage.

I'm really looking for a reliable new convertible car for the wife. Something we can take to the drive in and on trips south. I'm thinking a few years down the line to take it to COM and tear it up after she's not so attached to it.

I'd go with the Sky Redline, as recently reviewed in Autoweek.

That said, it does not have a useable trunk, as the convertible top leaves only a cubic foot or two of storage space when closed - same as the Solstice.

The 2006 MX-5/Miata, on the other hand, has a top which does not interfere with the trunk space at all. If future track use wasn't an option, then I would go for the recently announced convertible hardtop version, which again, does not intrude on trunk space (and it looks awesome!).

Biggest problem with getting a convertible for future track use is the rollbar requirement. The fun ones to drive, including the MX5, Solstice/Sky, have little to zero room for a rollbar, if you intend to keep the softtop (or any top for the matter). The 2006 MX-5 cup cars run without tops (and run well!).

I like the looks of the Sky and have read some decent reviews. That said, it does not look like it has any useable storage space and might be difficult to get onto a track.
