Miata Data Help

Post by mattsmusic » Thu Sep 15, 2016 5:22 pm

Hey Everyone -

My brother and I are looking for a data logger for our 92 Miata. I spoke with HMS and their only option is the Aim Evo4 with Smartycam for $2600.00. Considering this is about what our car is worth I'm looking for other options. We currently use Track Addict on our iPhones but not getting the data we need from it. What are those of you who drive a ODB1 car using for data acquisition?

Thanks, Matt Leff

What's your goal?

I'm quite familiar with the AiM suite of loggers and would be happy to help. There is also a local reseller (Matt Romanowski) that's very knowledgeable and helpful.

With OBD1 you can't get anything from the ECU so you'll need to install sensors. The evo and smartycam is the right way to go.

If you go with a standalone ECU (like a megasquirt), you can connect the AiM logger to the ECU. In that case you could get away with a AiM Solo DL and camera.

I have an MXL2 in my car, and Julie has an MXL. Both cars have smartycam HDs.

Jeff Baker has an MXL and Smartycam.

Jeff, is there a document on connecting the AIM Solo DL to the MegaSquirt ECU?

Yup:

You just need RX/TX from the ECU to the DL.
