Dont forget your passport.
Dont forget to set up temporary Canada phone and data plans if you need it to avoid huge roaming fees.
Other things: title or registration for trailered race car. I have never had an issue but i have been asked to show the paperwork for the race car in the trailer.
If you are staying at a hotel and have a pickup make sure you have a plan to prevent theft of the stuff in the back of the truck.
Bring more than one credit card. Every time i go to Canada and buy a lot of fuel it sets off a security alarm with my bank and i have to call them and get the card enabled again (it pretty quick).
Do you have leftover Canadian cash from past years? Bring it.
I found that some gas stations did not have high enough octane for my truck (ok for me yo use some according to manual).
Bring healthy snacks. Hard to find at Canadian rest stops.

Also,
If you notify the credit card company ahead of time you will not have any Problems using your CC.

If you contact your insurance company and request the Canada non resident inter-province motor vehicle liability insurance cards for all your vehicles along with any registrations you will be covered

I have notified my credit card company about my plans and what kind of charges will be typical and had issues anyway. I will be calling them.

Thought of two more things to put on my list. MKe sure your easypass account works and is configured correctly. A few years ago mine started failing all of my toll crossings. Was my fault.
Also check the air pressure on all truck and trailer tires including spares (like the one stored under the truck bed). I did mine today.

I never worry about proof of insurance since my registrations are for a state that requires insurance.

If you have a verizon cell phone, they have a new thing called "travel pass". In Canada, it's $2 a day, only on days you use it there. It allows you to use your existing plan, as if you were in the states.

Jon,

Thanks for the tip. I was unaware of that from Verizon. I check to see if it includes texting.

I believe it includes everything. Text, voice and data.

AT&T seems to have a free Canada Roaming Bonus you may be able to request: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r306150 ... ming-Bonus
which gives unlimited voice/text while in Canada and 1 GB of data per month.

I'm going to try to get it added shortly.

AT&T was able to add the "Canada Roaming Bonus" to our phones. It is free.

Best bet is to dial 611 from your phone and ask for retention. Ask for the "Canada Roaming Bonus" your friend told you about.

Hi,
I just called ATT. I struck out. Nothing available for me unless I first switch to a more expensive plan. I still need my temporary Canada mobile roaming plan. It is not possible for me to get free Canada bonus unless I am already paying for 10G data (I only pay for 3 now).

That's weird, you get Canada and Mexico but they skip out on the US? I'd look at getting a different plan.

according to the ATT web site to include Canada you need the $60/mo plan:
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/gophone-plans.html
and even if you do not care about that you need at least the $45 plan to qualify for family discount which is only incrementally better for each phone you add.

For me the GoPhone deal is not obviously cheaper if you have a lot of phones in your family.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

Rebecca: Try calling back. We are only on the 6GB/mo plan.

The Bonus Plan is hard for reps to find...press them--it's there.
