Thank you and Apologies

Post by SEISAN » Mon Jun 27, 2016 1:06 pm

COM has the best members and time after time we hear that. I had that experience Sunday.

On my second morning session I was braking before turn 10 and then accelerating when my car did not want to go forward no matter how much gas i was giving it. I ended getting into the pit out lane before it stopped. Dave came out and with the help of Chris Parson and dragged the Vette an with no wheeled movement snapped the tow hook. My front brakes were LOCKED and I mean HEATED and LOCKED. The pedal was stuck in the up position. After some time the brakes cooled off to roll the car. It was pushed in to the pits and close to my trailer by about 6 members - did not get all the names but thank you for you help. Scott Rosnick and Tom Cannon came over and did a diagnostic and found my battery was dead. We borrowed a charger from Bruce Allen and put a charge on it. They found the problem ( usually they are the simplest of things that cause the most problems ) The connector that hold the battery had a stripped bolt so the contact was sporatic. The jimmy rigged a hose and some dust tape to get it started. Unfortunately when I got to staging for the time trials I shut it off and was not able to restart it. One of our members ran to their car and came back with a trusty 8 MM wrench and I tightened the bolt and did get the vette to start back up. Oh by the way I did test the brakes before and they seemed to be working fine. ( will address this later with new rotors and pads ). Anyway, thank to everybody who helped to salvage my Time Trials runs especially Scott and Tom.

As far as the run group that got held up do to me, I know how it feels to be in a hot car on a hot day.
and my apologies to each of you.

Sounds like it could be an issue with the master cylinder relief port, it's a small orifice just in front of the piston that when the master cylinder is fully released it allows any residual pressure due to thermal expansion to relieve into the resevoir. If it doesn't work it causes the symptoms you described, brakes that lock hard when hot and release again once cool and a very stiff pedal. Check the brake pedal freeplay adjustment to make sure that the pushrod isn't pushing on the master cylinder when the pedal is released. There should be a small amount of slack when you press the pedal before it starts to push the master cylinder pushrod, if the master cylinder can't fully return when the pedal is released that port will be blocked. If that's not the case there might be something else causing a blockage of that port. Good luck!

Hi Mikhael,

Dave mentioned the same thing. I will take a look at it because i do not need it happening again at Thompson.

Thanks.

No need to apologize, it can happen to anyone! I know how it feels to be broken, but have always had people jump up and offer to help out which is what makes motorsports such a great experience! Everyone I have met either drag racing or now racing with COM have always been willing to jump right in and lend a hand. Glad you were able to get back out there! Looking forward to the BBQ at Thompson!

Thanks Anthony

Planning the menu for Thompson and it looks like Ginger Steak Tips, Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs and of course Chili which everybody now expects.

See you there and bring your appetite.
