Transponders?

Post by TXBDan » Thu Apr 30, 2015 8:40 pm

Hi all,

I've been doing HPDEs and autocross for about ten years now, but just joined COMSCC! It looks like a great club and I'm excited about running time trials. I have an E36 M3 (T70). Although I'm wait listed, i just signed up for the first event of the year. I'm having trouble finding info on transponder requirements. What devices are required and recommended? Are units available to borrow or to rent? The last transponder i used was an AMB X260, but i see they're now selling new units with subscriptions :? Do the old style still work?

Also, do all of the tracks you guys run use the same MyLaps system?

Thanks a lot,
Dan

No MyLaps. No transponders required. We put an RFID transponder sticker on every car every event. All laps captured.

Ah, wow. That's fantastic. Why don't more clubs/sanctioning bodies/series do this?

I have to say,one of the best innovations the COM club has done recently is use the RFID transponders for every vehicle, and posting times on everyone. It is nice to be able to readily see the progress of students in black and white and see what others on track are turning for times at a glance. Bravo to those who made this option a reality. 8) :sunny:

Yes. +1 on Bruce and Mark's statements. Plus the added bonus of no more bullshit sandbagging. You know who you are.

The club took a risk on bleeding edge technology and with perseverance of Bill Hoss made it work!
