Track Night Concept

Post by Shawn624 » Thu Apr 23, 2015 7:37 pm

I just started thumbing through my latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports when I saw an article on page 20 titled "Coming Soon: Track Night in America". It seems that the SCCA has stumbled on the value of the COMSCC format. Their twist is to offer it from 4:00-8:00 in the evening.

I tried to upload the article, but reached the limit of my technical skills before I could get it posted.

At least one of our tracks out here in Michigan has been doing this on their own for years. If you're close enough to the track to make it there after work and then get back home, it's a great deal. GingerMan Raceway is about 3 hours from my house so it's a bit far for a few hours of open track during the week. The fact that we're so far west in the Eastern Time Zone, means that it doesn't get dark until 9:30pm in the middle of summer though.

If I didn't have a previous engagement, I'd be heading to Thompson myself for this event.

Not with the race car, but with a folding chair and a big bag of popcorn. I think turns 1 and 2 will be a pretty good show once people think they've got a handle on this track thing and speed up enough to cook their stock and worn-out brakes...
