ZO6 problem for instructors
ZO6 problem for instructors
This is pretty weird, 2 instructors got sick in passenger seats of new ZO6's on the same day.

"Motion sickness or kinetosis, also known as travel sickness, is a condition in which a disagreement exists between visually perceived movement and the vestibular system's sense of movement."
Maybe the ZO7 Corvettes onboard stability controls are also contributing to the disconnect between the eyes and ears of instructors and making them nauseous?

The coolest part of this thread is that Gordon was lurking in a Corvette forum.

Re: ZO6 problem for instructors
Having driven a ZO6 for many years with COM and all over the country with other Corvette clubs I have never heard of this. My wife tells me she gets motion sickness when I drive a minivan and it's she says its because of the quick acceleration and fast breaking stops. I would assume it is the same with student drivers with experienced drivers and could be the acceleration and deceleration rather than the g forces in the turns or a combination off all of them.

I think this is a new problem for C7 Z06 only. It is weird that the regular Stingray doesn't seem to be a problem.

Re: ZO6 problem for instructors
Todays cars with the latest and greatest stability controls can do things that most humans are not capable of..including torque vector steering...and at the speeds a Corvette can achieve, I'll bet it is magnified to a point where there is that eye/ear disassociation, especially if a student is driving with the system "on" and active.. I dunno..might be a factor.
I'd probably barf driving one...

I can tell that I did some instructing for SCDA and had this exact experience. I had to cancel out of the last session because I was sure I was going to get sick. I really thought it was me. I have never had that experience in any other car. Glad to see this post as it explains what I experienced.

Are the seats particularly cushy in the new cars?......and what is the seating position like compared to the past models?

Re: ZO6 problem for instructors
Chalk up another victim. Must have been karma from my wise ass remark last week in this thread. Did some research when I got home and it's the Z06 with the Z07 package that is claiming experienced instructors. The first thing I noticed when I entered the car was the smell. Kind of a new car and leather smell- but very strong. On the track in the third session I had my student come in on what turned out to be the checkered flag lap. The nausea really hit me as we were creeping through the south paddock. Made it through the last session until we once again were barely moving in the paddock. I think my brain was still doing 143 mph? That's right- 143 in the chic/chic configuration and braking at 1.5- flawlessly. In 12 years of instructing- it was the most violent ride I've been on. The ride was never scary- the car is phenomenal and the driver's aides are world class. Just mash any pedal you want and hold on. Oh, and watch what you eat for lunch.

Oh, Poor Scottie! Life is hell. I volunteered to replace him but he wanted to drive it.

Bruce, he's co-driving with his son at Palmer if you want to try your luck.
