Thank You!

Post by savage217 » Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:08 pm

I just wanted to give DJ McArdle a public "thank you" for his generousity at WGI. Most of you probabaly know that I drive my track car to and from the track. After many years of doing this, my luck finally ran out Monday afternoon when my clutch went on me. I don't know what broke exactly but the car will not shift into gear and has very audible loose parts spinning inside the bellhousing when the engine is running. I'll tear it apart this weekend and find out what happened exactly.

DJ was nice enough to offer me to tow my car back to his house in Albany while I followed his 350z. I AAA'd it the rest of the way (first 100 free) which saved me a massive tow bill. People like DJ are what make COM a great club. I know a lot of things like this happen at every event and I think it's important to recognize the people and generosity that makes COM standout amongst the other clubs.

Thanks again DJ!

A huge thank you back at Nick D. who selflessly ripped the power steering pump off his car in an attempt to get my 328is back on the track in time for the TT. Unfortunately some engineering schmuck from Munich decided a '95 3er deserves a variable pressure pump while the '99s get a different setup and mounting geometry entirely.

And additional thanks to John S., Peter F., DJ, Chris P., Scott R., etc., etc. that all had a hand / lent expertise in trying to execute the unlikely swap. Agree 100% with Nick - the people in this club are the reason I continue to hit up as many COM events as possible without considering venturing to other clubs.

How could I forget! Mark Swinehart carried 3 of my wheels up while scott rosnick plugged my one nitto and we nice enough to bring it up as well. Also another thank you to chris parsons for bringing my nittos back home.

Dave,

Unfortunately that didn't work out favorably for either of us. Let's just blame John Spain for the whole incident

John thanks for buying us lunch Tuesday haha

Nick: Wish I knew you needed a tow home. We probably could have towed you, though it would have meant you'd have to drive Julie's Miata home.

With all the mechanical carnage at Watkins I too owe a few thanks. A big thanks to Jeff W. for helping me troubleshoot what seemed to be a bad wheel bearing that turned out to be a CRACKED hub:

Fontunately Jeff's rolling garage had a few spare hubs.

Also a HUGE thanks to Will who was kind enough to help me trouble shoot my air temp sensor issue that resurfaced the morning of the TT day. Turns out the cheap wiring was geting baked in teh engine bay. Will was able to do the prettiest ghetto wiring job to replace the bad harness and section of wire:

I would also like to thank no one for my alternator coming loose during or before the TT which led to my belt-driven water pump not cooling my motor. While I am pissed about the time my uncooled motor yielded in the TT I am just lucky I did not blow the motor!

In the tradition of continuing the circle-jerk here, I'll thank Chad, Dave and Nick for helping me find some time out there. WGI has always been a weird track for me.

I have said this a number of times, but in this club we tend to raise each other up. Good show.

And a big thanks to Rebecca for the huge bag-O-rags to help me clean up all the oily mess on and under my car.
Unfortunately for me I think the motor is seized. See you all next year.
