Pocono
Pocono
Hi,
It appears that southeast 3 is a longer faster track than most clubs are running. It looks very fast (at least for high power cars).
Questions:
Can someone confirm that camping in paddock us permitted?
Are there showers?
Is there fuel? Is it self service?
Is there a time when we can walk or bicycle on the track?
After event can we wait until next morning to leave or do they want us out of there?
What is the best route to get there (especially way home on weekday)?
Rebecca

Re: Pocono
Google says to go I84 to Green PA (exit 20) then south on state roads.

The nice part of I84 is that it's far enough north of the City, you rarely get caught up in the traffic.

Re: Pocono
I found a couple of videos on YouTube that look like the course we are going to use. The first one is a BMW 135i which gets to about 118mph before slowing for the NASCAR corner. Not bad, about the same as Thompson with an easier turn. The second one has an annoying passenger instead of telemetry.

Re: Pocono
If you do take I84 to get to Pocono just a word of warning they are working on the bridge at the state line of NY and PA both ways and in PA they are working on the road I think about 7 miles east of the bridge. On the way home on a Sunday night it was backed up big time I am not sure how bad it is during the week.
When leave for home I am going to take i80 east to i380 to i84 then to i81 north to i88 then to Albany and then i87 north.

Re: Pocono
I went to Pocono this spring via 84 from MA and the road conditions in Upstate NY and PA are bad. Heavy traffic, lots of pot holes and lots of construction. I would go to RT 80 by which ever means works best for you. You could take 84 to CT/NY border and then drop down 684 to the Tappen Zee/287 to the Garden State Pkwy to 80W. Traffic will likely be heavy no matter which way you go but after 84 in CT the roads are fairly wide open and in decent shape. I have some unedited video of the SE layout on you tube, search Chuck Tolley, sorry lots of pit video and no telemetry. Try Pocono Bob and Pocono 2, Pocono 1 is mostly of my trailer, I had some serious camera operator error going on that weekend. There are a couple of sections that are a little tricky but overall a nice track. There are bumps transitioning on and off NASCAR 1 but along the lines of Thompson as far as bumpiness. The short sort of straight leading up to the last righthander before going onto T1 there is a bump on the right side that upsets the suspension but staying left there is probably a better line anyways. The one time I looked at my speedo on T1 I was at 120 just before the braking zone. T1 is fun, a little unnerving at first but just don't think about the wall, don't look at the skid marks and enjoy the banking and all the grip. You can carry a surprising amount of speed thru the little chute from T1 to the infield straight. Have fun and good luck.

Re: Pocono
I just got the email, and would love to go, but three things are keeping me from Pocono this year:
1 - It's a fairly long drive from Montreal (7 hours)
2 - It's the same day I return from Pebble Beach
Would love to support the club in this instance, but circumstances have conspired against that happening.

Re: Pocono
Does anyone have a map of the configuration we are running with the correct corner numbers?
If so, please send me a PM.
Thank you -

Re: Pocono
Since there are only thirty people registered there will be enough garages for everyone.

Re: Pocono
Rebecca, I'm assigning garages based on forum comments, the online entry list, the usual garage buyers and rumors. You have a garage.
If anyone else wants a garage and has a doubt whether I know this- please post here, pm me or otherwise let me know. There are currently more garages than cars- so far.

Re: Pocono
Hey Scott - I'm in for a garage. Assume since I already registered for the event I'll bring cash. Thanks!
