cracked windshield still ok for com event?
cracked windshield still ok for com event?
I didn't see anything disqualifying a car for a cracked windshield in the rules section, so im just trying to get clarification, so when I attend your Watkins Glen event I won't be going and being told I can't run!
Thanks COMSCC

Re: cracked windshield still ok for com event?
Having helped with Tech in the past and knowing that you could not pass state inspection with a cracked winshield with the speeds traveled on the roads and highways. Not knowing what you will be driving when attending the Glen where the speeds are very high. I would not even think of driving a car on track that has a cracked winshield. Not only is it not safe for the driver but not safe for the others who will be on the track with you.
I would say no but would refer to our Chief of Tech to get a ruling.

As Bob said, it would have to pass state inspection for a road car.
Send me a picture - If we're talking an inch or so on the edge, I might be OK with it.
Anything longer, or anywhere near your line of sight, no dice.

Re: cracked windshield still ok for com event?
to replace most windshields the cost is not that much most of the time . around 300 to 400 dollars .
the guy that does the glass work in my shop just charged me 330 dollars for the windshield on a E36 BMW .
that was in and out plus the glass .
the only glass that will cost big dollars are on cars would be on cars like Ferrari's , lambos and some porsches .
the Porsche glass I had to have done last fall was called intershield glass . the glass for that car was 1800 dollars .
if that customer want to have the same glass replaced with just regular glass it would have cost 350 dollars for the glass with the upper tint and radio antenna in the glass .

Keep in mind if your car flexes a lot during an event that crack will grow in size very quickly.
I had a Scion Tc that cracked from a rock during a drive to NJ, down by the wipers. It grew 3x during the 4 hr trip and made it almost end to end.
I can't image trying to toss it through 3 & 10 at NHMS.

New windshield in place, ready for track days
Re: cracked windshield still ok for com event?
Good to hear. Now think how much safer you will be and because of a new windshield you should have less drag and me microcosims faster.
See you at the track in 3 weeks.
