New Super D & C

Post by DanDarcy » Thu Feb 06, 2014 9:08 pm

I'm considering the Super class for this year. Looking at Super C and D depending on the car I use. Anybody else thinking of running in these classes ?

I haven't done the calculations yet, so perhaps its too early to tell, but I plan to run the 913B in one of the super low classes.

Hi Carl, if you want another Porsche 912 to put a Mazda motor in, I have a nice 1976 912E on Ebay right now.

I'm thinking of running Super C. I had some great competition in T80 last year, so I'm reluctant to leave. On the other hand, I've had good competition with Gordon, Will and other drivers in SPC in years past so I could be swayed either way.

The bigger question is who is going to run slicks in Super?

Considering Super D or Super C with 06 NC Miata (supercharged). Which one depends on the final HP output after the tuning process is complete.

I am thinking of running the Lotus Elise in Super D and maybe using the Lotus Exige in Super C but only on smooth tracks (not NHMS). Being in Super class I won't have to worry about what tires I am running and how many points they are.

Either my math or my weight and power estimates must be way off. How would you get either of those two cars into those respective classes without a lot of ballast and restrictor? Or is that your plan?

The Elise would have to have 138hp at 2200lbs to run in Super D. If the Exige is about the same weight, you'd need to have less than 179hp for Super C.

Pete I think your under the misconception that an Elise weighs nothing. My car weights 2257# on the scales at NHMS with driver and fuel. You might also think it has more h.p. than it has, remember for our classing we use rear wheel h.p. not engine h.p. and rear wheel torque also. The Lotus has about 145 h.p. at the wheels and 105 ft. lbs. at the wheels. I never did the calculations before but Bill Hosselbarth thought my car should be in Super D with his car. So to figure it out we take 2/3 of the h.p. (97) and 1/3 the torque (35) add that together = 132. This is the number we then divide into the cars weight, In the Elise case this is 17.1 . I believe any number higher than 16 #/hp is Super D. The car does not need any ballast and could actually lose some weight and still be in Super D. I guess Bill Hosselbarth was correct.

My estimate on the weight was correct, just forgot to carry the w when making my calculations.
