Arm restraints in an Elise?
If I run an Elise with a BWR hard top, are arm restraints required?
Re: Arm restraints in an Elise?
Hi Jack, you do not need arm restraints in the Elise unless you take the top off. While you don't need arm restraints you will need a lot more horse power to be competitive in the new point system. Your Elise is classed out of ever being competitive.

But if there is more than one Elise there will be someone to beat.

It would be great to see you out at a track day again Jack.
You shouldn't need much power to be fast in an Elise. I do just fine in T80 with only 190whp and usually beat a few of the T90 guys who have nearly double the power. You need to be a good driver and use all the available points wisely to be competitive in any of the touring classes.DanDarcy wrote:Hi Jack, you do not need arm restraints in the Elise unless you take the top off. Thanks guys. Not overly worried about being competitive at this point. Just don't want to show up at the track and get sidelined because I wasn't prepared.

Hi Jack --- you will have fun, do you have your rear toe-links stiffened ? If not you might want to consider it. Other wise the Elise is good to go as delivered. If you have any other questions you can email me direct : ddarcycomscc@yahoo.com , Good luck

Re: Arm restraints in an Elise?
I have not done anything with the toe links besides check to torque on the bolts everytime I change oil. I'm replacing the radiator with a Pro Alloy from sector 111 right now and trying to figure out what to do about the oil cooler. Probably will do a BOE rear cooler as I believe the pressure drop in 27 feet of line has been the reason some guys wipe cams. Been running with no cooler on the street (did the full sandwich delete) for 2 years. I've been looking at the rules and with a Larini cat back, will need to stay with some higher treadwear number tires to stay in T80 from what I can see.

Hi Jack;
I run the stock radiator and oil coolers, never had a problem even in 98 degree heat at Watkins Glen. The problem with the stock radiator is the end caps leaking. The reason some people lose the cam bearings is that the motor starves for oil in long corners. You need to install a baffled oil pan like Moroso's oil pan. The stock oil coolers work well but their is a recall on the oil lines on most Elises. Your class will not be T80, you will be either T60 or T70. You get credit for weight over 2009# , weight is defined as the driver, full fuel and fluids and safety equipment. My car weights 2260# , with full fuel and an oversized me, on the NHMS scales. You also get credit for narrower tires (or tyres) plus 048s are your standard tires (LTS compound) . You still won't be competitive in T60 or T70 unless some rules change for 2014, you would need to be a very fast Lotus driver to be competitive even in T50 but its still a lot of fun plus the Lotus is cheap to run on consumables and fells like an oversized go kart.
