Probably not, since there's a 30% chance of thunderstorms. :-({|=

Goodness.

Imagine if we put an idp sticker on his car. That should help him drive faster in the rain and pretend it's a subaru no?

Just a thought

Hi Jonathan --- great to hear you got your car running again. I won't be doing a Com event until Oct. NHISIII . The only other event I'm doing is the NEQClub (Audi Club) at Watkins Glen Aug. 28 & 29 . I look forward to seeing you back at the track , after all I need some one to time me and I'll time you. See ya :)

I am hoping to be ready for the Thursday open track day! With my luck something else will go wrong between now and then. But if not, I will be there.

Hi Dan, I went up to NHIS on July 3rd to pick the jack I bought from Don P. I looked for you there but did not see you. My next COM event will be NHISIII too. I signed up for aug 18-20 at NHIS with WMC BMW club and will try to get something at LRP between the two.

Nice seeing so many COM'ers at the open test. My temp gauge read 102 in the afternoon.

The open passing zones were so nice. Everyone gave point by's (even though point by's were optional). The treehouse flagger used the passing flag liberally. There were very few trains even though some cars probably were taking twice as long as others to go around the track.

Any chance COM could adopt open passing zones for non-student groups (with point-by's required)? Also, how about using the blue/yellow flag more :D I know, not a chance, too risky, but would be nice :)

Was great seeing many COMers there! Sorry to have missed various events, but the timing has been rough plus my wife was a no go for July 4 event. Had to attend the Lime Rock Park Ferrari Historic Races last week (did 1:08 laps) so not like there is no track time fun here. So many great COM guys there Thursday and MANY thanks to the COMer who helped me pack up. His Porsche was looking VERY good on track.

Kinda forgot how hard NHIS compared to the nicely flowing Lime Rock Park or Watkins Glen. There were many cars on track and many marbles too :( One of the marbles seemed to have torn my driver's side innermost CV joint boot, so will be replacing that this week or so. The good news is that my best lap was 1:31:150 once i dialed out most of the horrible understeer.

Agree there were some very good point bys and all in all everyone had a great time. Look forward to the next COM NHIS event!

PS: got the Traqmate GPS datalogging system and hardwired in a few things as well. This allows me to do a lot of analysis plus export the data to make a virtual dash using the Track Vision software. Here is a lap at NHIS on Thursday http://www.ispexperts.com/nhis072706_data.wmv
Enjoy the Track,

To Raj and others :
Re: Open passing zones for experienced drivers.
COM asked NHIS about this several years ago.
Could we allow our instructor group only, to have unrestricted passing?? Reply was that if we allowed unrestricted passing, NHIS would call it a race event and charge (much more $$) accordingly.
The idea was dropped as being economically unrealistic.
I don't know quite what you have in mind Raj, but it might get the same reaction from NHIS.
Lately they seem very unreceptive to anything that might create a situation which makes the track seem 'unsafe'.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards - Bill Miskoe

re passing

Post by boltonite » Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:02 pm

fwiw, the bmw white mtn (NH) chapter has a program where drivers who are willing to be passed w/o a point by afix a decal to their rear window. I think there is some other requirement, attending a meeting of some sort, before you can participate. Those that have the decal can pass/be passed anywhere on the track where reasonably prudent, but those w/o the decal can only be passed w/ a point by. This is only available to instructors and run group 1 (solo) drivers.

Fred,

I'm running at the WMC event at NHIS on Aug. 19 and 20, and look forward to their passing zones.

Here is a link to their "open passing" policy (Note: PDF link alert!!!)
http://www.wmc-bmwcca.org/documents/Passing_policy.pdf

The relevant section:
Group 1 drivers and instructors wishing to pass in corners will be required to attend a Passing Clinic, after which they will be given numbered orange stripes to be affixed in the corners of their front and rear windows. These stripes will afford that driver expanded passing rights from that event forward. When a driver with passing stripes comes upon another driver with passing stripes, the former may pass the latter at will, even in corners. Those without passing stripes must adhere to the same passing zones as novice drivers and, more importantly, may not be passed anywhere other than a passing zone (with the requisite point by). We will post spotters around the track and any driver with passing stripes who illegally passes a driver without them will be black flagged and ejected from the event.
Looks like it will be fun :) If BMWCCA can do it, COM should be able to as well, especially at NHIS where we seem to have frequent parades in group 1.
