Calabogie Videos

Post by Gmedalion » Tue Aug 20, 2013 10:47 am

I guess I will start this.

Chad Fox, me (Lenny Hong) and Nick Fontana driving Nick Leung's car as we go JDM VTECing.....I slide at T16 at the 10:30 mark and flat spot tires. This was on Saturday and after this I found an oil leak to ruin the rest of my weekend.

Best lap was 2:29.xx

It looks like your link is pointing to something slightly less interesting.

Au contraire, they are the same place...

Neat track, horrendously stupid turn names - it is almost embarrassing using the turn names when discussing the track with your students/other drivers.

Here's an actual video of the track - I didn't have my shtuff together with video all weekend, and only got 1 practice session on video (1st session on Monday). The session was rather boring to watch, so here's one OK lap with a few mistakes, most notably missing the apex at T20 like a n008. I think the lap time was around 2:27 on very sketchy R1's that were dead.

Here are a few laps from open track. I don't usually drive like such an idiot. By day 2 my tires were totally spent and I was just having a little fun sliding the car around.

Hey guys.

I'm going through my footage to find some somewhat respectable laps to post (it's not easy) and was wondering if anyone had any footage of following me (Black VW GTI) at Calabogie this past weekend. In particular, I'm hoping to find some footage showing my tripod cornering technique that I got a few comments about. :-)

If you think you have some, can you send me a message? Ideally, I'm hoping to get actual camera video files from someone (not web-posted videos) if possible.

Many thanks in advance. And sorry to distract anyone from their driving over the weekend with my 3-wheel'ed antics. :D

xms651: I found a video of me chasing you for a while. Send me a PM with your email.

This was my first away event and I have to say, I'm doing more of them. You should too! The camaraderie is second to none (not to mention if Bob-B-Que) and I racked up ~380 track miles.

Here's my TT. As always, constructive criticisms are welcome..

I made it interesting on the third lap which would have been my best until I went off.

Lap 1- 2:29.241- 0:00
Lap 2- 2:29.072- 2:36
Lap 3- 2:38.866- 5:05 (this was a sub 2:29 lap until...)
Amazing save, almost- 7:12

Much like Dave I was on a fast lap [2nd hot] and took a detour during the TT which was my best lap. Kind of embarrassing  but my foot slipped off the brake part of a heel/toe into 17 but was able to recover without much incident. Comments and criticisms welcome.

I'm no expert but here it goes:
Turn 1: Don't lift
Between turn in for Turn 2 to braking of turn 5: Don't lift
After braking for Turn 10 to braking of 12a: Don't lift, full throttle, don't downshift
Turn 15: Shift to 4th later.
Turn 16: Don't lift

You should also try to think about being either full throttle or hard braking at this point, no coasting. I have a hard time with that and really need to focus on hitting my marks and be on the tottle quickly.
