My trailer was stolen!

Post by WillM » Tue Jul 16, 2013 8:21 pm

Some **** stole my trailer some time between late Saturday night and early Monday morning. I discovered it was missing at 2PM today when I went to hook up the trailer in preparation for this week's event at NJMP.

Trailer was stolen from my office's back parking lot in Billerica, MA.

The trailer is a 18' Dively / EconoTrailer. Open deck, dual axle, electric brakes. Steel. Black. White 15" steel wheels.

Appears to be Econotrailer model # ET184B-102:

http://www.econotrailer.com/Open.html

Though there are many of these open-deck dual-axle trailers on the road, my trailer had several customizations that make it a true one of a kind. I have never seen a trailer with these customizations, so if you see it on the road, take a pic of the license plate and let me know!

On each side of the trailer, in front of the fenders, is a pocket long enough to carry 2 race wheels/tires (2 on each side, so a complete set of 4 wheels/tires). If you've ever seen my trailer, you know exactly what I'm talking about; they make the trailer very unique. These tire carriers are steel, professionally cut and welded in place, painted just like the trailer, and look like they came from the factory; they did not.

I had a large Contico trailer box (plastic) on the front of the trailer. A fabricated gas jug bin (again, professionally cut & welded steel, painted like the trailer) was tucked neatly behind the box. Two 5-gallon 'square' jugs fit in that bin. The jugs were on the trailer when it was stolen.

The cams/retainers of an anti-sway weight-distribution hitch are/were attached to the trailer's "A-Frame"are.

Other features:
LED lights all-around
Round, 7-pole trailer wiring
Red LED light marker lights on spring loaded poles at the rear corners

Inside the trailer box, was:

The trunnion bars and tools for my weight-distribution hitch
Painted-yellow, custom foot for the trailer jack.
Red Mac's Tie downs
Spare yellow tow straps
Ratcheting tie-downs
Bungees
A zillion dollars worth of Joe Gibb's oil (3 quarts)
Spare fuel jug caps and fill caps with shut-off ball valve and fill tube
Spare Miata rotors
Spare Wilwood rotors
Spare Miata wiper blades
Spare Miata fan belt
Harbor Freight bolt cutters
Assortment of cleaning chemicals and car fluids
....and probably a bunch of things I'll be looking for the next time I'm at the track.

Please pass this around. I doubt very much that the trailer would not be readily identifiable by the customizations, and I HIGHLY doubt that these **** know that those parts are custom. Even if they cut them off, it will be obvious that these areas of the trailer have been modified. Wouldn't it be great to track down these ass-hats? I'm guessing this is neither the first or last trailer they decide to steal.

Of course I suppose the trailer could be headed to the scrap metal yard in pieces too. I don't think I have any pictures of the trailer, but will post some if I do.

In the mean time, feel free to contact me if you have any leads on a good trailer for sale. Likewise, feel free to start up a 'buy Will a Toter-Home and Stacker Fund". I'll be happy to let COM use it for the classroom sessions. :)

Thank you lady and gents!I

It is a big hassle more than anything, particularly as that parking spot was very convenient for me, and thought I'd like to keep using it, I'm not sure I can trust it again.

It's just a trailer, though I really liked it, particularly after I invested in modifying it to make it fit my needs, which it did very well.

you know what's funny i'm so tired of working on cars two weeks ago i sent in all the paper work to the US dept of transportation to start manufacturing utility trailer and car trailers .

there is some thing most of us over look and that;s the insurance on the trailers .
my auto insurance covers the trailer when it's hooked up to the dodge lodge and my shop insurance covers it when it's parked on my shops property but my insurance did not cover the lose of the trailer because it was parted on amtracks property behind my shop . i may use the parking lot and do the up keep all the time but it'is not part of my property it's am-track right of way .

as for a slap on the wrist ?
no they will not even get that . when the kid tried to steel my delsol and totaled it along with two other cars and smashed in the front of my van he got 3 years probation with no restitution .
after all a 19 year old kid doesn't have the 30 plus K to pay me back for all the damage the law does not want to be to hard on him he's underprivioleghed .

Will, I'm sure you have called the cops and all but my place of business is also in the 'ricca and we have been told that there has been a few guys in a Uhaul driving around scoping stuff out....the cops DO know who these guys are....maybe put a bug in their ear....They have been out to our place to review our security footage for another reason and saw the Uhaul scoping out our lot (we store a 16' enclosed on site but it wasn't touched). If you need any more info shoot me an email at jason@angrypork.com and I can put you in touch with the cop that is handling our issue.

I work in Billersh$itta, too, in the office park by The '99. I am always on Craigslist looking for a beater, will check there for trailers once a day. One of my co-workers collects Mustangs and is always looking at trailers so I will let him know also. He lives there, so he might see something on the back roads if it didn't go far. Any pics of it all modded out?

Les - better take that picture quick because the last time I saw your trailer it was hooked to the back of a black Toyota!
